I have again been endorsed by Peace Officers for Good Government. That’s an organization of active and retired City of Des Moines Police Officers.
They endorsed me when I first ran. I promised them that I would protect 411 and IPERS. I promised them that I would keep the ball moving on providing benefits to the families of fallen first responders.
This particular organization doesn’t suffer fools. They are a no-nonsense bunch, so this second endorsement means even more than the first one. It tells me that they were satisfied with my work in the legislature.
That means a lot to me. I appreciate this so very much, and I offer my thanks.
My feelings about first responders haven’t changed.

Special thanks to the Warren County GOP Central Committee. I appreciate the opportunity to speak at your meeting Monday night. It was great to discuss and hear from Iowans about the issues that matter in District 11 and your communities.

I have officially filed my paperwork and submitted my signatures to appear on the ballot.
Thank you to everyone who signed, helped gather signatures, and offered encouragement along the way. Your support means a lot and made this important step possible.
I’m grateful for the conversations I’ve already had across our community and look forward to many more in the weeks ahead.
We can make a difference.
I'm a bit late in writing this, but I'd ask anyone living in Madison County to look at Allen Anderson in his run for Madison County Supervisor.
Allen and I were Iowa State Troopers together for years, and after his promotion to Trooper Sergeant, he became my direct supervisor.
Sergeant Anderson was always a good and fair leader for several reasons:
1) Allen tended to urge his employees to excel as individuals.
2) Allen took care of those serving under his command, yet he wasn’t afraid to be the stern sergeant when needed.
3) Allen was always ready and eager to offer assistance to local law enforcement and first responders.
4) Allen never forgot that we work for the public.
I think these are the kind of qualities that any county supervisor needs, and Allen Anderson has them all.

STATE TROOPER THORUP ANNOUNCES RUN FOR IOWA SENATE DISTRICT 11
December 16, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Longtime Iowa State Trooper and former Iowa State Representative, Jon Thorup, officially declared his candidacy today for the Iowa State Senate seat representing District 11.
With a decades-long career in public service, Thorup brings an experienced and qualified perspective to the race. He served two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives and has been a state police officer for almost 30 years. A lifelong Iowa resident, Thorup has called Warren and Marion Counties home nearly all his life and is proud to have served our community both on the patrol and in the legislature. Motivated by his personal faith and a desire to improve the state in multiple areas, Thorup is committed to respectful political discourse.
"I think a lot of us are tired of how nasty politics has become. I’m not a guy that brags very often, but I’m proud of how I have treated political opponents,” said Thorup. “Disagreement doesn’t have to include anger."
Thorup says his work experience has shaped his concerns about public safety in Iowa. "We like to think of Iowa as a safe place, and in some ways that’s true. On the other hand, there is still a big problem in Iowa in terms of child predators and child po*******hy. Iowa still has hundreds of unsolved homicides,” he stated. “We need to make sure that fire and EMS services are always available for every emergency. We should be as prepared as possible in the event of a terrorist act or another school shooting.”
In his work Thorup has seen the impact that mental health has on schools and communities. He believes the earlier mental health concerns can be identified and treated, the better the outcome for the individual and community.
Thorup is driven to improve financial protections for Iowans, which includes working to help fix our state’s property tax problem and its continued impact on budgets across the state; in addition, he wants to solidify landowner protections against eminent domain. The republican candidate also cares about the health and living conditions of Iowans. He will keep pressure on water quality improvements in urban and rural areas and will advocate for answers and mitigation efforts regarding Iowa’s high incidence of cancer.
