Children of Promise Detroit Help me spread the word about Children of Promise Detroit. Together, we can make a difference.
WHY SUPPORT US ON GIVING TUESDAY? π€
When Bryanna attended our camp as a high school sophomore, her high school counselor had told her that she was βnot college materialβ and should consider attending community college, at best. π³
During our field trip to Central Michigan University (CMU), Bryanna fell in love with the campus and inquired about their psychology programs. πππ
Fast forward to 2018, Bryanna graduated from CMU with a B.S. in Child Psychology and earlier this year earned her Masterβs of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis from Purdue University Global. π€π©π½βπππΎ π₯³ π
Stories like Bryanna's propel us to ensure that no economic, educational or social constraint will keep our youth from discovering and walking out their purposes, ultimately becoming Children of Promise.
Join us as we lift up and support our youth to become children of purpose, passion and promise. Click on the "Donate" button or go to https://www.paypal.com/US/fundraiser/charity/3991017 where 100% of your donation goes to the work we do for our youth.
Thank you for your generosity! π₯°

Congratulations to Keyaira Johnson for modeling an inspirational level of service to others.
Keyaira Johnson, 15, is a making history π Keyaira has done community work with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan and St. Cecilia Girl Scout Troop for the last 10 years. Her time is also spent with Gleaners, Free Press Marathon, Ronald McDonald House and local resource pantries.
Keyaira's Girl Scouts Silver Award project addressed the issue of homelessness. Keyaira gave a room at the Genesis House a complete makeover for a family that was temporarily homeless. Using bright colors and her eye for design, she made the room feel more like a home. Her goal was to provide a space to help the family feel a sense of empowerment, peace, and happiness while in a temporary situation.
Keyairaβs amazing work has resulted in awards such as the Urban League of Detroitβs βDo the Right Thing Awardβ and the Detroit City Council Award.
In honor of Black History Month we are spotlighting 20 young Black Detroiters, age 25 and younger, who are making history TODAY! Follow along for daily announcements of these community leaders and changemakers π€ Design by Alexis Bagley ()

It's Camp time!! An opportunity for us to help our youth see themselves as the Children of Promise that they are.
According to cigna.com, the Coronavirus pandemic has shed light on a worsening mental health crisis amongst our young people that includes struggles with emotional issues, increased loneliness, anxiety and depression.
We aim to help combat some of those struggles during our "I AM ENOUGH" Health and Wellness camp.
We'll have our traditional bonfires with s'mores, canoeing, and college tour, but to address some of the issues mentioned above, we're adding yoga sessions, journaling, creating vision boards and lots of time to explore the outdoors and ourselves.
This year's camp is for Girls, ages 11-14.
**If you don't have a daughter/granddaughter/niece/etc., you can still participate by making a donation of any size at www.childrenofpromisedevelopmentservices.org
AND you still have time to sponsor a camper! Message us for more details.
Thank you for sharing and supporting. We couldn't have made an impact on our youth without YOU!

today fall into a clinical diagnosis β depression, eating disorders, cutting, and other mental/emotional disorders. On top of these, many more report being constantly anxious, sleep deprived, and under significant pressure. (The Triple Bind, Steven Hinshaw)
Suicide-related behaviors are also a growing problem for adolescents. In 2019, approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a su***de plan in the past year, a 44% increase since 2009. CDC
Childhood and adolescent obesity have reached epidemic levels in the United States, affecting the lives of millions of people. In the past 3 decades, the prevalence of childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents.1 The latest data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey show that the prevalence of obesity among US children and adolescents was 18.5% in 2015-2016. Overall, the prevalence of obesity among adolescents (12-19 years; 20.6%) and school-aged children (6-11 years; 18.4%) was higher than among preschool-aged children (2-5 years; 13.9%). School-aged boys (20.4%) had a higher prevalence of obesity than preschool-aged boys (14.3%). Adolescent girls (20.9%) had a higher prevalence of obesity than preschool-aged girls (13.5%). Moreover, the rates of obesity have been steadily rising from 1999-2000 through 2015-2016. According to Ahmad et al, 80% of adolescents aged 10 to 14 years, 25% of children younger than the age of 5 years, and 50% of children aged 6 to 9 years with obesity are at risk of remaining adults with obesity.
