Day 5 and we are making tote bags!

Don’t let the look fool you. Canvas tote bags are incredibly forgiving to letter on. The surface has just enough texture to grip your paint pen, and because the fabric has a little give, it actually hides small wobbles better than wood does.

Oh my stars — have you ever made a banner before??

If not, I want you to try this one because it's way more beginner-friendly than it looks. A banner is really just a series of small, individual pieces — which means you're only lettering one or two letters at a time. No huge surface, no overwhelm.

And just think about how cute that’s going to look on your front door or somewhere inside your home (I bet you’re already picturing the perfect spot).

Day 3 — and today we're making hand-lettered cards💌

This one surprises a lot of beginners because they think lettering on paper sounds harder than on wood. But it's one of the most forgiving surfaces you can letter on.

Brush pens like Tombow work great here — they give you that beautiful thick-thin variation without a ton of practice. Let the template guide the shape and just focus on staying inside the lines.

Shelf sitters!

If you've never made one before, today is your day.

A shelf sitter is just a small, flat piece of wood (or MDF) with a routed groove cut into the bottom so it can "sit" on a shelf or ledge. You can find them at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Amazon — they're inexpensive and SO satisfying to letter on.

The thing I love about shelf sitters for beginners is that they're small — which means less surface to fill and less intimidation. If a letter goes a little wobbly, a tiny bit of touch-up paint fixes it in seconds.
