Update : both bags have been claimed.
Also, you can always tell when I don’t have my glasses on by the amount of typos in my post so sorry about that πŸ˜‚

Two bags didn’t get picked up yesterday for the summer food program so if you need extra food or know someone who does, I’ve left the bags out in front of the farm stand. Please come get them. I just don’t want this food to go to waste.

They get on my nerves πŸ˜‚

Hey friends! We have a neighbor who needs to find a good home for these two pigs as quickly as possible. They are reported to be approximately 1 year old and have been housed together. I do not know their exact breed, medical history, or future mature size, so interested parties should do their own research and ask any questions they may have before making a commitment. Male and female, not spayed or neutered

Pigs are intelligent animals and require appropriate housing, fencing, and long-term care. These two are looking for someone who can provide them with a suitable home and proper care.

Located in Rockmart (Paulding County)

If you are interested or would like more information, please send me a message and I will get you in touch with the owner. Please share to help these pigs find a good home.

πŸ₯š Georgia Egg Producers: Important Changes Coming July 1, 2026 πŸ₯š

I've been reading through the recent changes to Georgia law and wanted to share a quick summary for anyone who raises chickens and sells eggs directly to consumers.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Georgia's SB 551 repeals the state's Egg Law, including the requirement for producers selling eggs directly to consumers to obtain an Egg Candling License.

So what does that mean?
βœ… You will no longer be required to complete the egg candling course and obtain a license before selling eggs directly to consumers.
βœ… This removes a barrier that many small farms, homesteads, and backyard flock owners found difficult to navigate.
βœ… More Georgians will have the opportunity to legally sell eggs from their flocks directly to their communities.

However, food safety is still important, and consumers still deserve clear information about the food they are purchasing.

If you're selling eggs, it's still a good idea to:
πŸ₯š Keep eggs clean
πŸ₯š Remove cracked or damaged eggs from sale.
πŸ₯š Clearly label your cartons so customers know who produced the eggs.
πŸ₯š Include a packed date or collection date whenever possible.
πŸ₯š Provide safe handling and refrigeration information --> (SAFE HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: To prevent illness from bacteria: Keep eggs refrigerated, cook eggs until yolks are firm, and cook foods containing eggs thoroughly.)

Many producers have also asked about recycled cartons. While the old law restricted carton reuse, the important thing moving forward is making sure cartons are not misleading to consumers.

If you reuse cartons:
β€’ Remove or completely cover old labels and dates.
β€’ Cover any previous farm or store information.
β€’ Make sure the carton clearly identifies you as the producer.
β€’ Remove or cover claims that may not apply to your eggs.

The goal is simple: customers should know who produced the eggs and what they are buying.

Overall, this is a significant change and win for small farms and backyard flock owners across Georgia. It removes a licensing requirement while still allowing producers to focus on providing a safe, quality product to their customers.

Rosco is all smiles today because the farm finally got quiet again. The only visitor was the farrier, and he got his peace and quiet back. 😌🐾

Also, this Naked Neck chick hatched today.

I know every mother thinks her baby is beautiful, but this one is testing my commitment to that belief. πŸ˜‚

Truly a face only a mother could love.

I’m the mother. It’s me.

Throwing in a couple of pics of the guinea keets who made their way to the grow out pen today too.

Today we had the privilege of hosting the Haralson County 4-H group here at Luttrell Farm, and it was one of those days that reminds me exactly why we do what we do.

The kids spent the day learning, exploring, creating, and making memories. We started with a farm tour, then dove into hands-on activities where they made their own goat milk soap, became Junior Egg Detectives while learning about eggs and chicks, and mixed and created their own hypertufa garden pots to take home.

One of the highlights of the day was a visit from MyReptileGuys where the kids got up close and personal with snakes and other reptiles, learning about these often misunderstood animals and even getting the chance to handle them.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a farm day without a little fun and friendly competition! The fishing tournament kept everyone busy throughout the day, with a trophy awarded for the biggest catch. We also spent time swimming, cooling off from the summer heat, and wrapped up the afternoon with plenty of fun playing Gellyball Adventures.

There were muddy hands, wet clothes, fish stories, lots of questions, plenty of laughter, and more than a few kids stepping outside their comfort zones to try something new.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers. Thank you to everyone who gave their time, shared their knowledge, helped with setup and cleanup, taught classes, supervised activities, and invested in these young people. The kids may not remember every fact they learned today, but they will remember the experiences, the encouragement, and the people who took the time to teach them.

And to the students - thank you for your curiosity, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and willingness to jump in and try new things. You made the day special.

I’m exhausted, a little sunburned, and definitely ready for a shower, but my heart is full. Days like today remind me how important it is to connect kids with agriculture, nature, hands-on learning, and simply being outside.

Thank you all for helping make another successful 4-H Farm Day at Luttrell Farm! β€οΈπŸ‘πŸ”πŸπŸ§ΌπŸŒ±πŸŽ£πŸ†

Today Hank the pig decided to take himself a nice mud bath and he rolled into a spot he couldn’t roll back out of.

Next thing I know, Hank is hollering, the donkeys are hollering, the sheep are concerned, the dogs are howling, and the chickens are running around like the barnyard is under attack. Every animal on this farm apparently felt obligated to join the emergency broadcast.

Meanwhile, Hank’s actual emergency was that he had become one with the mud.

After several failed attempts to encourage him to use his own legs, I ended up roping his front feet and dragging his big back self out like a giant squealing potato.

Hank survived. My shoes did not.
