Governor Rick Snyder, last week, abolished the Michigan Food Policy Council. The 25-member body tasked with creating a healthy food supply for Michigan residents was formed in 2005 by then-governor Jennifer Granholm through an executive order and though the generosity of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The council was created to support local food systems and encourage agricultural diversity. It allowed citizens to have a voice in shaping those local food systems on a statewide level. By Snyder eliminating the council, he’s eliminated the voice of the citizens.
