Eighteen years ago this weekend, we were married on remote Great Barrier Island — beautiful, wild, and not the easiest place to organise a wedding.
Looking back, choosing places a little off the usual path seems to have become a theme.
Years later we found ourselves planting a vineyard from scratch on a windswept hillside above the Raglan coast — in an area where wine grapes had never been grown before.
Eighteen years on, it’s still just the two of us, building it one vintage at a time.

The Shelter’s been popular lately with couples and small groups.
