My paternal grandfather, Thomas Andrew Greig (1903-1993) was a fan of the famous Scottish baird - Robbie Burns. His bookshelf was littered with Burns' works. I was well pleased today to discover that Burns loved eating eggs as testified in a letter he wrote in 1794 "... that she cannot give me anything - eastable- more agreable than a new laid egg". Some information on my farm and the eggs I produce.

My farm is the ideal example of integrated genuine pasture raised free range.
Small flocks (300) housed in mobile sheds on permanent green pasture shared with cattle. Stocking rate 100 hens/ha (norm 2500/ha)
No cages, no fences, no hormones, no antibiotics, no artificial light - just as nature intended.
Higher Omega -3 content and darker yolk color from eating pasture

Eggs hand picked and packed daily by myself and available to customers within hours. Delivered mostly day after lay (35 days best before date)

Regenerative farming practices - no tillage, no nitrogen fertilizer, mixed species pastures, nutrient recycling, composting, tiered system - crops, cattle , poultry

Ethical farming practices - happy hens, MPI compliant, ECan compliant, IRD compliant- all cash income declared for GST and income tax, recycled packaging, not available in supermarkets only direct from the farmer.

Currently only six pastured free range egg farms in New Zealand. You cant buy my type and quality of eggs in any supermarket in NZ.

In the beginning...is this how it all started for Farmer Bruce...?

An interesting picture considering my future! This was the Hillbrow Farm, an event that happened in Johannesburg each year to introduce city kids to farm animals. This is a new born chick from Farmer Brown - a well known poultry brand in South Africa. Their tag line was "they taste so good cause they eat so good". Picture taken with my late father and brother in about 1977. We were very excited to appear on the SABC news that evening. Good memories of a happy childhood. My Mom must have been feeling cold so we were all wearing jerseys.
