Thank you Transport Topics for having me on your RoadSigns podcast for Veterans Day. Appreciate the opportunity to share my story of dedication and redemption. https://roadsigns.ttnews.com/episodes/how-has-military-service-shaped-the-veteran-experience-in-the-trucking-industry/
RS71: How Has Military Service Shaped the Veteran Experience in the Trucking Industry? This year for Veterans Day, we revisit the sometimes invisible heroes – the ones who protect our country in combat, and those who keep our nation fed, clothed, and vaccinated. Join us as host and Navy Veteran Michael Freeze sits down with Army Veterans James Rogers, owner of Spartan Direct Truck...
Today, we pause to reflect on the history of this great Nation and honor all those who fought to defend it. This Veterans Day we give thanks to veterans past and present, men and women from all walks of life, who stood up and said, “Send me.” We recognize your sacrifice, your sense of duty and your love for this country. Thank you.
Thank you Mid-America Trucking Show for the honor and recognition. Look forward to the 50 year celebration in March 2022!
We're excited to announce the round #1 Winner of the MATS giveaway, James Rogers - owner of Spartan Direct LLC!
James served more than 11 years in the U.S. Army including tours in Afghanistan and Korea, until suffering a spinal injury in an IED explosion. After a two-year recovery, James was ready to return to work and discovered the trucking industry. In September of 2017, he was nominated by his employer to receive a truck of his own through the Keys To Progress program.
On April 7th, 2018 he received the keys to his own 2015 Freightliner Cascadia, and his company Spartan Direct, LLC was born. Six months later, James bought another truck and hired his first driver. Today, the Spartan Direct fleet consists of 7 trucks, one being a team truck, that worked non-stop during the pandemic delivering critical items the country needed. James prides himself in serving our country with passion, direction, and a goal, and runs Spartan Direct the very same way.
Happy Birthday to the leader of the pack! owner James Rogers.

It was an honor to share my story a year ago and proud to still be working hard supplying the country with the goods we all need with this amazing Spartan team. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=844390899389116
Everything, and we mean EVERYTHING, is on a truck at some point before it gets to your home or business.
As a young man, I was taught that we live in the land of opportunity, that nothing is free, to work for everything I needed or wanted, to never take anything for granted and to repay those that helped you. I have lived my life with that mindset.
At the age of 27, I enlisted in the United States Army. I served for 11 years, 2 days and 19 hours, which included tours in Afghanistan and Korea. I was medically retired as a Staff Sergeant in 2014 after suffering a spinal injury in an IED explosion. After 2 years of healing from both mental and physical injuries, I was ready to return to work, and began researching the trucking industry. I found the trucking industry reminded me of the camaraderie of the Army and I felt a renewed sense of service to my country.
Instead of serving on the battlefield, I am serving on the interstates and commerce lanes of our great country. I found integrity working in the trucking industry. I have been able to work for, and with, companies that have the same morals instilled in me by my parents and the military.
In September 2017, I was nominated by my employer to receive a truck of my own through a program called Keys To Progress. The Keys To Progress program is run by Progressive Insurance and they have given personal vehicles to military veterans in need for the last 5 years. They wanted to expand this program to their commercial side and give a truck to a military veteran that was also a truck driver. I submitted my application through the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, the non-profit Progressive had partnered with for this program to find a recipient, and was chosen to receive the truck.
