Today’s piece features lots of saturated blue fume. Blue fume is typically what people think about when they think of silver fume. In fact most of the industry was under the impression that silver was only blue. It’s been a mission and part of my career to prove them wrong and to show them what silver can do. This piece is made out of clear glass and silver, that’s it. You can see that it can achieve any color in the light spectrum and even achieve colors that are not it does this by combining different colored wavelength of light and sending them both to your eye when this happens makes up its own colors. This is how pink forms!

This piece was made out of a Canadian silver coin and glass tube. The coin is cut into small pieces and attached to a rod, then placed inside of a 2000 degree flame. There it sublimates into fume and is deposited onto the glass. Then it is trapped by melting additional glass on top. Melting the tube into a solid in a controlled way to produce this design inside. Then it’s heated and cooled to crystallize the silver in a very specific way. This process allows for certain wavelengths of light to pass and reflect, producing these colors.
