So happy to have Lexington artist David Kring join us at the Holiday Market on November 16th!!
David Kenton Kring was born and raised in Frankfort, Kentucky where he grew up in and around his family-run men’s workwear store. This blue-collar atmosphere helped to influence not only his passion for working with his hands but also his love of nostalgic imagery and interaction with everyday objects. He received his BA from Transylvania University focusing in ceramics and mixed media. David then began working for the ceramic distributor Kentucky Mudworks, where he honed his skills as a figurative sculptor and potter. Since then he has exhibited nationally, lectured and demoed at major universities, and has begun curating gallery shows and craft markets. David is currently living in Lexington, Kentucky where he keeps a home studio as a full time working artist and is the co-founder of Crafted Social, an events organization striving to highlight artists, functional designers, and traditional craft artists.

Caroline Zama will be at the Holiday Pottery Market on November 16th with her colorful storytelling ceramics. Caroline is among the artists that also holds classes. Find out more in person at the Market!

Michael Imes has been making pinch pots for over 50 years. He was president of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen in the 80’s, when he lived and worked at Big Lick pottery, in Nelson County. He now lives in Wisconsin where he’s still pinching pots and teaching at Carroll University.

We welcome Lena Wolek to the Holiday Pottery Market on November 16th. Lena was born in a small Siberian town during the last decade of the former Soviet Union where generations of her family were porcelain factory employees. While playing with chunks of clay found in the local soil, she was raised by people with knowledge of the industrial processes of ceramics.
Ms.Wolek immigrated to the United States in 2001, and eventually studied art, first obtaining a BA degree from University of California, Los Angeles and then a MFA degree from California State University, Long Beach. She now lives and plays using old familiar process with the local clay in Louisville, KY.

Some of our favorite pieces come from ceramicist Laura George Lynch! She is busy making new work at her studio in Old Louisville for the Holiday Pottery Market on November 16th at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens

Lisa Kurtz will be joining us at the Holiday Pottery Market on November 16th. Here is a little about Lisa...
As a functional potter for over 45 years now, I still enjoy fine-tuning the little details that make my pottery user friendly. I fell in love with the fluid and impressionable characteristics of clay in college. After receiving my masters in ceramics from the University of Louisville, I first set up my pottery "Highland Pottery" in Louisville, Ky. Rocks and water have always inspired me. Now living in East TN, I love the streams running through the mountains. I also love the ocean. The textures and colors in water, sand, birds, shells and rocks often inform my work in clay and my glazes. I mix up all my
own glazes and am often tweaking them to highlight form and texture in my work. My goal is to infuse my work with the peaceful feelings that water worn rocks, landscape, and waves give to me and share those feelings with others through my pottery and clay
art.

LOUISVILLE POTTERS/LOCALS
....LOCALS (Living On Clay And Louisville Soil) is a group of Professional Louisville Potters who have come together to share sales events and give each other support in our clay lives. Our friendships have grown over the years because our common bond is the love of working with our hands, minds, and hearts with a material that is CLAY. Some of our stories are similar and some are very different in each artists discovery of the first touch of clay to our hands. We invite you to learn of these experiences as clay artists / potters and view our work whether traditional or contemporary, sculptural or functional. Visit our LOCALS annual events in the Louisville community and support local pottery.
Our group began in the early 80’s when Sarah Frederick had an annual Holiday Sale in which she would invite other clay artists to join in the sale. This tradition led to many years of Holiday Sales in her home with a roaring fire and homemade baked goods for our loyal customers as well as a summer seconds sale in the back yard. We thank Sarah for our beginnings and are grateful for her role as a leader and artist in the clay community and for her continual support.
LOCALS has two major events during the year which showcases our clay work to the community and beyond as well as gives us a chance to “hang out together” as artists. Our major event is the ANNUAL HOLIDAY SALE with a new location in 2017 at the Mellwood Art Center the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The ANNUAL SECONDS SALE at the Masonic Home Grounds usually July 4th weekend.
