Congratulations to Dr. Kathryn Coumanis LCSW, Founder of Penelope House , the first shelter in Alabama on being nominated and inducted into the 2026 NASW Social Work Pioneer Program in Washington DC on June 10, 2026. This program honors members of the social work profession who have contributed to the evolution and enrichment of the profession. The Pioneer Program recognizes individuals whose unique dedication, commitment, and determination have improved social and human conditions. Dr. Coumanis, we honor your work.

All Roads Lead to the South. A well-planned day of advocacy with leaders of Black Voters Matter, organizations from across the South, state, local, and Congressional delegations, and partner organizations including NASW-AL Chapter and members at the National Day of Action on Voting Rights’ rally in Montgomery, AL. Chapter leaders and volunteers also participated in virtual and onsite voter registration.
