22 c modified racing
22c modified chunk racing races at woodford glen speedway

Our grids for Gold Rush over 3 races. Then highest on points after the Gold Rush will start off the back for King of the Coast.

Delayed update from our 2nd night of Modified Invasion. Apologies its been a busy old weekend/week.
Night 2 we went into it excited especially finishing night 1's feature in 4th place. We set ourself the goal of making the pole shuffle - which was to based on the top 8 on points.
Heat 1 - We were starting on P10 at the rear of the grid. The lights went green and we got off to a flyer, making up a heap of places early. Only for us to go yellow. This resulted in a complete restart. Ready to go again, the lights went green and we got tangled in a racing incident. Our left rear tyre was torn apart and we had no choice but go to the infield. Not the start we wanted but the start we got.
Back in the pits the crew got to work replacing the left rear, and putting the body back together - it's amazing what cableties and tape does π€£. The pictures speak for themselves.
Heat 2 - We started in P3, behind Brad. We knew Brad would be gone, so our plan was to follow and go hard. We managed to stay in 2nd for a few laps before we got passed by a couple of cars with a heap of drive. We came home 5th.
With a DNF in the first heat and only picking up 2 points we found ourselves coming in 9th, and missing out on the pole shuffle by 2 points. .
Modified Invasion Feature - We started P9. We pushed the car hard, our tyres were a little cold resulting in us spinning out as we push hard coming in turn 4, we unfortunately did this a couple of laps in a row. This seen us pretty much towards the back. However 25 laps can be anyone's game. We knew we had some ground to make up and some cars to pick off. One by one we made our move. Car felt great on the higher line. Our efforts seen us bring the car home in 5th.
Overall we were stoked. Modified Invasion has always been a bogie meeting for us, where if we didn't have bad luck we would have had no luck at all. So to pick up 4th in the feature on night 1, and 5th in the feature on night 2 was epic.
Congrats to 23gm Braith Kalin on 1st place, 2NZ Brad Lane on 2nd and to 4c Michael Gourley on 3rd.
Thanks to all those drivers that travelled whether from the North Island, top of the South or the Coast, you certainly helped make it a couple of great nights of racing.
A massive shout out this week to Mark who is an absolute legend in our crew (and is someone who we consider to be just part of the family). Mark gives up his time, uses his annual leave to travel, is a quiet workhorse and just an overall good bu**er. Thanks mate for your help, effort and time. Also massive thanks for your help on Thursday night.
To my crew, Matt Bailey and family thank you for your help and support over the weekend. We couldn't have raced with out you.
Thanks to all those who wished us luck either in person or on our page. We don't always get a chance to respond, but we do see them and appreciate them.
To all those that came down to get photos and/or have a chat, thank you π. Hopefully some of you got the chance to check out Outlaw Sims one of our sponsors on Saturday night.
To our sponsors thank you!!

Tomorrow morning we hit the road early and head over the hill back to our favourite track. 4 races. 3 for the Gold Rush (thanks to Iain who runs the 32gm Mod & Mary-Anne who have kindly sponsored the Gold Rush) and 1 for King of the Coast.
If your free and want to do a roadie racing starts at 12pm.

Our grids for tonight. Here's to a good night of racing π

Update from night 1 of the Modified Invasion, and what a night of racing it was.
Hard, fast and epic. After losing a couple of cars we started the meeting with 17 cars. Split into 3 groups.
Heat 1 - We started P3, the car felt good. We hit turn 3/turn 4 at pace, where we hit a lip/rut in the track, car got ugly but managed to control it. Losts a couple of spots and just didn't have quite enough drive. Came home 6th.
Heat 2 - We started the race in P10, car has better drive and felt awesome. We managed to hold of Jason Kalin in the 12s car coming home in 4th.
This put us on 16 points and gave us a P7 start in the 20 lap feature.
The feature was hard and fast. Battles happening everywhere around us. There was no denying action, with cars being spat out everywhere. A few laps in we managed to find a space where we sat for most of the race, car was good and we managed to keep those behind us at bay, even after a couple of Indian file restarts. Unfortunately our race was cut short due to a massive roll. Driver was ok thankfully, but certainly a demonstration of the hard, fast racing. We were super stoked to come home 4th in the feature. Car was on point.
Congrats to 23gm Braith Kalin on his heat win and to 3NZ Steve Thompson on his two heat win and also feature win.
Chunk and the 22c Chunk Racing team would like to take the time to acknowledge and thank Brian Campbell for all the time and effort he has given to Woodford Glen, as our flags man. Brian's dedication to our sport has been huge and without people like Brian we can't go racing.
Although Brian is hanging up his flags we have no doubt he will still be floating around the track and that we will continue to see his kind messages come through on our page. Cheers to you Brian π»
Now we look to night 2, we carry our points from night one over and look to get some work done tonight.
For anyone at the track tonight your most welcome to come down and check out the car, or just come up and have a chat. Make sure you bring the kids down and get some pics too π

Our groups and grids for night 1 of the Woodford Glen Modified Invasion. 17 Cars.

They are a heap of fun and a cool experience! π€
Make sure you come check us out at Woodford Glen Speedway Association Inc. this Saturday. we will be running a lap time competition with a season pass valued at $400 up for grabs for the fastest lap time π

Well bu**er, our weekend didn't quite go to plan but that's all part of racing. We fix it, brush it off and go again!
The sun was out, the track looked mint and we were excited to be back at our favourite track knowing we had two days of racing ahead of us.
Heat 1 - We started in P5, the car felt good and pushed hard to bring the car home on 4th. Which made us excited for heat 2.
Heat 2 - We started P14, we got off to a flyer, the car was dialed in and felt like it was flying. We managed to pick up a heap of places early on in the race. As we approached the half way mark of the race we chased hard looking to advance further. As we came out of turn 4 the steering box gave way. Resulting in us retiring to the infield, and having a bloody sore hand from the snap back of the steering wheel when it gave way. Definitely not how we thought this heat was going to pan out.
Once we got the car back to the trailer we were kindly offered spare parts from numerous other drivers. To those drivers thanks! We appreciate your offers of help to try and get us back out there on the track. π
After trying a part and it being slightly too big we made the call that our weekend was over. We decided to stay the night but shoot home Sunday morning to try and sort the car in preparation for racing in Cromwell today.
This decision seen us remove ourselves from the Gold Rush Feature on Sunday. Which turned out to be postponed due to weather. Which secretly we are a little happy about as it means we might just get another spin or two on the coast before the end of season.
On returning home Sunday lunchtime, we ripped the steering box out and worked to repair it. We put the steering box in, everything looked good until..... we turned the steering wheel and we noticed a leak from the pressure on the steering box and it flexing.
This resulted in the late discussion at 7.30pm Sunday to pull out of the Rees Tour in Cromwell today. While we would have loved to have been there it just wasn't meant to be.
The silver lining for us is that it occurred this weekend and we have time to fix everything as we head into the Modified Invasion at home on Friday and Saturday night.
Before all the thanks we want to congratulate 2NZ Brad Lane on winning the South Island Champs, 3NZ Steve Thompson on 2nd and 23gm Braith Kalin on 3rd.
Thanks to Bean (Matt Bailey) for giving up your time to crew and to help rebuild our steering box.
Thanks also to my crew and family who came over to lend a hand and support.
To those to took the time to send a message and wish us luck. Those messages don't go unnoticed. Thank you.
Lastly but not least, thank you to our sponsors!

Nelson section of the Rees Tour done and dusted.
We can now officially say we can tick β
οΈ off another track that we have competed on.
Our first time competing on the Nelson track was certainly a little different to all the others we had been on and took a little bit to get use to. Especially with having a more circular style and not a great deal of passing room.
Our first heat we started off P5, and finished 5th. Which wasn't a huge surprise as we got use to the track.
Heat 2 we started off P1, but had Brad in the 2NZ as out pace setter so knew he was going to come out hard and fast. We quickly got into 2nd. Once there we knew we needed to stay there and make sure we didn't do anything to leave an opportunity for those behind us to take. Came home 2nd and happy with how the car went.
The feature we started P3. This is where those highest on points would start from the back grids. We didn't have a lot of options in P3, in relation to getting space of the start to move and been on pole. However we did what we could and even though we finished the race in 5th we still enjoyed our race.
Congrats to Brad, Barry and Iain on their results from Nelson.
After staying with family in Nelson on Saturday, and having a camp out in the trailer last night we made our way home. Unfortunately not taking part in the Rees Tour in Greymouth tomorrow. Instead we are taking the time to service the car in preparation for South Island Champs on Saturday and Whyte Gold - Gold Rush on Sunday in Greymouth.
Massive thanks to cousins for letting us stay in their bach in the sounds on the Friday night, and to my Aunty & Uncle for putting me and the crew up on the Saturday night. To my Nelson family to came along to support and to my family back home - thank you.
To Mark, my Dad and Izzy thank you for crewing, taking time off work and the effort you put in. It is appreciated.
To our sponsors THANK YOU!
Now to this coming weekend.... we can not wait!!
Well Nelson has put on a cracker day, the weather couldn't be any better.
We have just completed hotlaps as we haven't run at Nelson before. Which was great to get a few laps under our belt.
Unfortunately a few less modifieds than originally entered.
Heat 1 - We are starting off P5
Heat 2 - We are starting off P1
Heat 3 - To be confirmed.

Chunk and the 22c Crew/Family, send our thoughts and best wishes to Kev, Tania and their family at this time.
We have had the privilege to race beside Kev in the 49c modified for numerous years before he changed his class this season.
However changing classes certainly didn't stop him from appearing in the pits when modifieds were racing, where he would crew for others and have a good yarn to all.
Kev has been in all of our thoughts this week! And will continue to be throughout his recovery.
If anyone is any a position to support Kev and his family, we know it would be hugely appreciated.
Ruapuna Speedway would like to share that a Give a Little page has been set up to support Kevin Ban and his family.
Kevin was the driver involved in the Sprintcar accident on Saturday, March 8th. He remains in serious but stable condition in the ICU at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.
Kevin and his family have a long road ahead. Being based in Wellington and Christchurch, they face travel costs to be with him. Kevin is also self-employed, and wonβt be able to work for some time. Many of you will know Kevin as the man behind Horsepower Heads. Since its establishment in 2016, his business has supported speedway. His previous business did the same.
All donations go directly to Kevin and his family to cover expenses during his treatment and recovery. Unused donations will be set aside as an emergency fund for future motorsport incident victims. The family is incredibly grateful for the kind words and support they have received during this difficult time.
If you can, please donate and share this post. Letβs come together as a speedway community to show Kevin and his family how much they are loved and supported.
You can find the link to donate here https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/support-kevins-recovery
