Common Cause Collective

Let's design a just and regenerative future, together.

Food Systems Change - 2024 Design Cohort — Common Cause Collective 04/02/2024

What's new in 2024? We're expanding the collective!

Common Cause Collective exists to bring people together across disciplines, challenge the status quo, address complex problems, and contribute to the commons.

Each year we pick a problem area to focus on and then organize a series of activities that invite our community into the process of designing a more just and regenerative future, together.

In 2024, we've decided to open the doors and invite a new cohort of impact-driven creative leaders into the collective and let them decide how to intervene in this year’s problem area.

If you’re passionate about design and the food system... click over to our website and read on!

Food Systems Change - 2024 Design Cohort — Common Cause Collective Apply to join our 2024 Designing Together Cohort to get the opportunity to work with a diverse group of peers and expert advisors to develop creative interventions that could put us on the path toward a more just and regenerative food future.

Feeling like it's doomsday? Nivi Achanta, founder of Soapbox Project, is joining us to talk about how to design climate solutions for a joyful world on Thursday, November 30th, from 5:30-7:30pm.

Register at: https://lu.ma/76of6dld

Most mainstream climate solutions are rooted in the narratives of fear and urgency. Those emotions are real and important... but they also might be why we're missing the point. Nivi will help you change the narrative by anchoring on the importance of joy in your climate work. In this workshop, you'll be guided through some behavioral science, futurism, and community organizing activities you can use in your own life to design for a better, safer, happier future. Together, we'll imagine the world we want to live in (and learn about why this is a great tool in your joyful activism toolkit!) and start practicing how to have climate conversations that are uplifting and effective.

This workshop is for you if you are having a hard time navigating climate anxiety + the general doomsday feelings of the world right now and you're feeling ready to embrace your role as a change agent.

Brought to you by Climate Designers Seattle in partnership with Work on Climate and Common Cause Collective, this event is open to all Seattle area locals who are inspired to take climate action through their professional work.

Thank you to our event host, Indigo Slate, who will be providing light snacks and drinks

Thank you , , & all the attendees for helping us kick-off our book series. What a great event! Awesome discussions and wonderful reconnecting with the community. Stay posted for details about the Closing the Loop book club starting in May.

If you've been feeling like the area of design you're practicing is missing an awareness of context and complexity, pick up a copy of Closing the Loop (tip: Seattle Public Library has a few on order!) and come to our event on Monday the 17th. The book is a wonderful introduction to systems thinking for designers (hence the title..!) We'll be getting the conversation started at the event and continuing with a book club in the weeks after.

Hello Common Cause Collective!

CCC has been mostly hibernating since early in the pandemic, but we're still here! It's time to get the gang together and hang out for a bit.

If you are interested in the idea behind Common Cause, join us at Halcyon Brewing in Seattle on February 11th, 3–5pm to meet others and share what brings us together. This is an opportunity to rise up to support our community in these precarious times.

Hope to see you there!

The national conference was in Seattle recently. Dimeji and Kamal presented about Transition Design alongside an amazing panel. Nina and Gage were lead volunteers. And as AIGA National Board President, Manuhuia was busy meeting and planning for the future of AIGA. It was great to see each other again, meet new folks from across the country and world, and attend the inspiring main stage sessions, symposia, and design dialogues.
