In horticulture, chimera refers to a grafted plant that exhibits characteristics of both the host and donor plants.
In celebration of World Listening Day on July 18, 2024, Phonography Austin and COLLIDE Arts will present a sound installation, Chimera, in which field recordings will be played continuously throughout lower Pease Park.
With Chimera, we hope to find out what happens when one soundscape is grafted onto another.
Central Texas-based artists are encouraged to submit recordings made outside of the context of Pease Park - other biomes than Pease Park, from other seasons than summer, in other contexts than an urban park.
If you’d like to submit a recording you can do so here: https://forms.gle/6b6xX9znFrbQvvjH6. Please submit by July 8, 2024 at 11:59PM CST.

TONIGHT at 7!! Phonography Austin and Me-Mer-Mo Monday present a series of field recording-based performances and audio installation by Alex Keller. Event link in comments.
For the final performance on February 19th, Jeannelle Ramírez will present Engulfed: A collection of sounds collected from Austin, Miami, New York and the Dominican Republic, flowing from east to west and west to east, washing up on each other’s shores. Simultaneous immersion in these divergent sites forms a flow, navigating nostalgia, home(s), presence, and imagination.
Our second act performing at 8:30 on February 19, 2024 is Field Unit. Swipe right for event details.
FEILD UNIT is the duo project of sound artists Travis Burns and Harrison Montgomery. Oriented towards the production of unstable atmospheres, FIELD UNIT plays with acoustic space through the use of field recordings and extensive manipulation.
Our first act performing at 7:30 on February 19th, 2024 is Critical Root Zone. Swipe right for event details.
Critical Root Zone (CRZ) documents urban space through field recordings. Informed by spatial thinkers like John Urry, Andy Merrifield, and Walter Benjamin, CRZ uses sound to reveal intersections of culture and economics in the city. For this event, CRZ relies heavily on recordings made on an obsolete iPhone to create lo-fi soundscapes with minimal processing.

Hi Chris,
I understand avoiding personal communication at work. I like the project name! Will you only be playing field recordings or using any effects or modules? If it’s the latter, then I would include that in the description. Maybe your short description could be a bit longer or give more detail?
thank you!
