Boulder! Join us on June 17th for the opening reception of Experiments in Public Art: A Boulder Future Exhibition at the Main Boulder Public Library in the Canyon Gallery from 5 to 7pm. ⛰
Very excited to share the new mural "Future Flourishing" with you all- commissioned by the City of Boulder for the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan update. I was born in Boulder. It is a very special place to me and when the opportunity to create art of what it could look like in the future came along, we were excited by the challenge of it.

On Aphantasia
We received a lot of inquiries at Droid HQ after a recent post about Andrew’s aforementioned lack of visual imagination, a phenomenon known commonly as “Aphantasia”.
The audio in this clip is taken from Andrew’s 2017 interview with , where Andrew describes what it’s like to be inside his mind and how he dances between chaos and order in his creative process. Andrew says he’s discovering the artwork as it’s being created, and it’s this exploratory process that continues to inspire him to dive into mystery again and again.

“I do not have a visual imagination. I was talking to an artist friend Kevin Llewllyn, and he was narrating what happened inside his imagination when he was creating these amazing fantasy characters, and he gave me a blow-by-blow of what was going on. And that’s when I realized he had a movie in his head.
When I close my eyes, I see black, or sometimes static or amorphous geometric shapes. I don’t know why this is, I suffered a brain injury when I was a kid, maybe that has something to do with it. I can’t conjure images up inside my head.”
What makes art exciting is that I’m the first one to see them in their creation. As they emerge from the primordial chaos of shapes and colors. Through that conversation, they become sculpted and brought to life. I’m as excited to see something finished as any fan who would want to see a new image, because this is the only way I can bring these things out is through that same process of discovery.”
