Building the Africa We Want!

CAFOR recently hosted a special virtual session with Mr. Samuel Martin Samuels Harris to explore how the global diaspora can play a larger role in Africa’s development.

From Education & Teacher Development to Digital Transformation, CAFOR is ready to lead with a robust proposal pipeline and implementation-ready models in Ethiopia and the DRC. We discussed concrete ways to collaborate through:

● Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer.
● Institutional Linkages with universities and NGOs.
● The "African Safe Diaspora Initiative".

Thank you to Mr. Samuels for his valuable perspectives on diaspora investment. Stay tuned as we move forward with technical working sessions to bring these plans to life!

Africa’s diaspora is a massive economic engine! With annual remittances reaching nearly USD 100 billion, they contribute roughly 5.2% of Africa’s total GDP.

However, as Dr. Lawalley Cole (Executive Director of CAFOR) points out, declarations of unity have not yet yielded the systems needed to turn these assets into measurable development. To truly transform the continent, we must move beyond symbolic gestures and start building real economic infrastructure.

What does real ex*****on look like?

• Legal Recognition: Formally ratifying the AU's "Sixth Region" to give the diaspora a real seat at the table.

• Smart Funding: Moving beyond family support to investing in "diaspora bonds" that fund schools, hospitals, and green energy.

• Youth & Skills: Creating exchange programs between African universities and experts abroad to boost our "demographic dividend".

• Market Access: Using global diaspora networks as "connectors" to help African businesses trade more easily under the AfCFTA.

• Trust & Accountability: Enforcing strict anti-corruption policies and traceable investments to ensure resources reach their destination.

Africa doesn't lack resources; it lacks the systems to coordinate them. It is time to treat the diaspora not just as a source of help, but as a formal partner in Africa’s future.

A Season of Reflection, Renewal, and Hope

As the year gently comes to a close
and a new chapter awaits,
we pause to reflect, to give thanks,
and to look ahead with renewed hope.

From Africa to the world,
from classrooms to communities,
from dialogue to action,
CAFOR extends its warmest Season’s Greetings
to our valued partners, sponsors, members, and friends
across the globe.

This season reminds us that lasting progress
is never achieved alone.
It is built through shared vision,
strengthened by solidarity,
and sustained by trust and partnership.

Together, we continue to believe in
the transformative power of education,
the unifying force of media,
the leadership potential of Africa’s youth,
and a future defined by peace, innovation, and dignity.

As we celebrate Christmas and the New Year,
may our collaborations grow stronger,
our ideas more courageous,
and our collective impact deeper and wider.

May this festive season bring you
peace, good health, fulfillment, and joy,
and may the year ahead open new horizons
of cooperation and shared success
for Africa and our global community.

On behalf of the CAFOR Leadership, Team, and Global Community

We were profoundly honored to host H.E. Ambassador Anil Kumar Rai at the International Day of Nonviolence webinar, a collaboration between CAFOR and the Ashoka Group of Schools!

Ambassador Rai delivered an inspiring address, underscoring that real power lies not in domination, but in moral courage and justice, following the path of global leaders like Nelson Mandela. He highlighted the crucial work of the UN system (UNESCO, UNICEF, UN Women) and the African Union's Agenda 2063 and its Silencing the Gun program in fostering peace and protecting the vulnerable.

His core diplomatic message resonated with urgency:

"Building a culture of nonviolence is not the task of one organization or one day. It is a collective journey..."

He emphasized that by integrating nonviolence into the heart of education and everyday conduct, we directly address the root causes of violence: inequality, intolerance, and injustice. He championed the view that schools are the essential "lab for human values."

Our Collective Call to Action & Pledge:

Let us renew our commitment and pledge that: "Every classroom will be a sanctuary of peace, every home a space for respect, and every nation a beacon of hope, so that the next generation inherits not the fear and violence, but the confidence and compassion."

Thank you, Ambassador Rai, for your leadership and for emphasizing the power of education and diplomacy in creating a peaceful, inclusive world where no one is left behind. Jai Hind.

Jai Hind.
