RIP to Sergio Santos Mendes. I’m so glad to have seen him perform live at the 2011 Tokyo Jazz Festival. My favorite albums of his are the one with Brasil ’66 and the two with Will.i.am. So many jazz, bossa, and samba classics.

Sergio Mendes: 10 Essential Songs The bandleader and musician, who died on Thursday at 83, was a bridge from Brazilian music to the world — and back.
One of the greatest saxophonists of our time. Arguably the most popular. He was my favorite. I saw him perform with/as DMS (George Duke, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn) in one of the best jazz supergroups ever in a flawless concert performance at the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2011.
The music was so powerful that I was moved to tears many times. Not because it was sad music, on the contrary. It was so rich, exciting, and powerful, that I didn’t know how to process it other than with tears of joy. It was the most mind blowing musical experience of my life. I have some of the videos up on my YouTube channel.
Men. Prostate cancer is real. Make sure you are getting yourself checked out.
David Sanborn, Jazz Saxophonist Who Played on David Bowie's 'Young Americans,' Dead at 78 David Sanborn, the saxophonist, has died at age 78 after a battle with prostate cancer, Rolling Stone confirmed.
..."Granted, many influencers do unethical things to gain more public adoration but scamming your audience into thinking you’re a DJ is the height of Party and Bu****it, and to hell with any DJ or person who claims, “the audience doesn’t care if you can’t mix by ear because they just want to hear good music”. The obliviousness to creativity from a faceless crowd isn’t more worthy of questioning than a DJ’s failure to be truthful. There’s no honor in deceit. When you rely on the advent of technology that makes the process of DJing easier to present your “creativity” to audiences that paid upwards of $719 to hear you spin, you’re a fraud. IDGAF how often you get booked. Quantity of gigs does not legitimize a DJ’s artistic abilities when the whole reason you’re appearing on stage is because you’re projecting a gift for playing music through an artificial intelligence proxy.
From deep fake DJs like Grimes to the platforms that promote them, It seems like everyone’s a sellout in the industry now. Social media has made it so that if your aesthetic is right, you’ll be invited to speak on every DJ podcast and perform at music festivals despite your inauthenticity as a DJ. If you advocate for A.I. “DJs”, then you’re a spokesperson for grifters who’ve devalued the art of DJing, respectfully."
