The 31st Annual Guam Micronesia Island Fair wrapped up on Sunday, June 2nd at the Plaza de España in Hagåtña, Guam.
Yap was represented at the fair by Yapese living on Guam and who traveled to Guam for the Fair. The Yapese delegation also contributed a couple of dances, courtesy of the Gaker Sisters--girls living and studying in Guam!

The Yap Booth at the Fair featured a few handicrafts, flags, chew paraphernalia, leis, local products--and our Yap Day T-shirts!
The T-shirts are still available; so for those who still want them, send us a message any time.

All in all, it was a great few days in Guam with our fellow islanders, celebrating our culture and wares.

Yap Day 2019

Photos from Yap Day Committee's post 02/03/2019

Yap Day is one of the longest-running cultural celebration in Micronesia—last year was the 50th anniversary.

As such, Yap Day garners the support of many communities, both on and off the island.

would not have been possible without the support and sponsorship of so many individuals, groups and organizations.

Karimmagær gæd, Hosaihachigchig, Thank you very much!

Yap Day celebrations are usually a good time to see our young ones and community schools compete in a variety of games and activities.

Take for example—girls’ juggling contest. In heavy grass-skirts. With woven balls of coconut leaves. All of this under the hot, tropical sun.

Now that is worth celebrating!
A for effort!

Your work ethic and initiative are truly what makes our islands home.
