🔥 **Sauna Mechanical Venting — REAL WORLD AIRFLOW SETUP** 🔥

I’m in the sauna talking about something I *couldn’t actually find online*:
👉 how to properly **vent a sauna with intentional airflow** — not theory, not diagrams, but a real build.

🌀 **Why airflow matters in a sauna:**
Saunas need **continuous fresh air** to function correctly.
• Better heat consistency
• More comfortable breathing
• Proper oxygen exchange
• Controlled moisture and faster dry-out
Airflow isn’t optional — it’s part of how a sauna is supposed to work.

🔧 **Our setup:**
• ✅ Dedicated **fresh air supply** via a mechanically powered inline fan
• ✅ **Two 3” supply vents** near the stove (intentionally overbuilt)
• ✅ Designed to maintain **more air supply than exhaust**
• ✅ **Lower exhaust fan** running during sauna sessions
• ✅ **Upper exhaust fan** used after sessions to fully dry the space
• ✅ Louvers + fan speed control to tune airflow

🧠 **Why supply air near the stove?**
Some heaters use thermal sensors underneath. Supplying air there can help stabilize heater operation and improve overall performance during long sessions.

🪵 **Moisture + longevity details:**
• Rockwool insulation on all sauna walls
• Pressure-treated framing where possible
• Fully taped foil v***r barrier
• Cedar walls + ceiling coming next

💧 **Extra detail:**
Freshwater line over the stove — quick spritz for steam without a ladle. Dry heat or wet heat, your choice.

Built because I couldn’t find anyone showing **real airflow implementation in a sauna build**.
Hopefully this helps someone planning theirs the right way.

🪟 Pella Lifestyle ✅ + Steady Set 🔧
Pella installed them for us 👷‍♂️💰 and that part was smooth.

But if you’re doing drywall returns 🧱, those Steady Set clips can create a finish problem ⚠️ — you’ll end up needing backing so your drywall isn’t floating between clip points 😬
We had to shim/fur out most openings 🪚📏 to keep everything flush + keep the drywall from breaking ✅

Solutions (pick your poison) 🧰:
✅ Option 1: 🪵 Wood shims (easy to customize, solid backing)
✅ Option 2: 🧩 Foam shim system (fast + consistent)
✅ Option 3: 🎯 Hybrid (wood + thin 1/16” tweaks for out-of-square spots)

Sometimes you don’t have space for full 1.5” blocking because wires are running exactly where you need to build. ⚡️😅
When that happens, we adapt. 🧩

In tight conditions like this, we use 3/4” subfloor with pocket holes to get a clean, flush fit without disturbing existing electrical. 🔨📐

But wire protection is still a must — always.
So we add a metal protection plate behind the blocking to keep the drywall from bulging and the wires safe. 🛡️⚙️

Little details → Better outcomes.
That’s the difference between “good enough” and done right. 👌🏽🏠

When the part you need doesn’t exist… you make it. 👊

We needed a way to connect a bathroom exhaust fan to a Roofivent, but there wasn’t an off-the-shelf solution — so we designed and 3D-printed our own. 💡 Modern tools like 3D printing let us solve real-world jobsite challenges with precision, speed, and zero compromise.

No waiting on backorders. No “good enough.” Just a perfect, custom-fit part built exactly for the task. ⚙️💨
