Jackson Health System's Ryder Trauma Center teamed up with Samaritan's Feet International to provide 300 Miami seniors with new fall-prevention footwear at the Carrie P. Meek Senior Center, a simple but meaningful step toward keeping our older community members safe, mobile, and independent.
Falls are one of the leading causes of serious injury in older adults, and proper footwear can make all the difference. We're proud to stand alongside Samaritan's Feet International and the incredible volunteers who made this day possible. 🙌

Donna Byles, Victim Service Specialist at the Roxcy Bolton R**e Treatment Center, shares the story behind the center: founder Roxcy Bolton opened its doors in response to a rise in sexual violence in our community, and that mission still drives the work today.
Walk in any time and pick up one of the red phones outside; an advocate will greet you, explain your options, and stay with you through the entire process.
The center provides free, confidential care 24/7 for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, including nurse exams, trauma-focused therapy, and support groups.

Carlos Flores couldn't play outside with his son without losing his breath. Sleeping through the night had become a challenge. At 308 pounds, he knew something had to change.
After watching his wife transform her health through bariatric surgery years earlier, Carlos began exploring the same path. But it wasn't until he met Dr. Irving Miranda, a bariatric and general surgeon with Jackson Medical Group, that he felt truly ready.
Dr. Miranda's approach goes beyond the operating room, working alongside patients to build healthier habits, set realistic goals, and prepare them for lasting success. On December 1, 2025, Carlos underwent bariatric surgery and hasn't looked back since.
Today, he's lost more than 90 pounds. But the biggest change isn't the number on the scale, it's the life he's living now. He runs, rides bikes, and plays football and baseball outside with his 10-year-old son.
"I recommend it 100 percent," Carlos said. "Before, I thought I was fine, but now I feel amazing. It changed my life."
