Ever wonder "Why Oktoberfest?" As quirky as it may be, read on to see how our annual celebration honors our town's history and it's German roots.

In the late 60's a group of area business owners got together with artist John Kollock who thought the Blue Ridge foothills resembled his former military station in Bavaria. The group came up with a plan to save the fading timber town and the result is one of the state's most visited cities and the country's longest running Oktoberfest.
