Windy Ridge Bird Rescue
A small bird rescue offering help and advice to any type of garden bird in need.
Is there anyone Retford way that could please collect an injured pigeon from top of spital hill? There is a lady with it but she has no vehicle and I'm at work X

Oh my cutie tutti fruitie!
This wee stock dove was found in a toilet by a lady I know, and although very shy at first (the natural nature of a stock dove around humans) she's suddenly realised I am indeed here to help đ

Earlier this morning a very lovely local vet brought this wee woodie over. Bless her heart she couldn't find her car keys so travelled from Retford on the bus with her baby in the pram! đĢI didnt know this until she arrived đĨš
I fed woodie but then decided I would try baby under one of long term residents - Wobbo. Hes been with me around 6 years, is completely free and has reproduced many a time đ
He just happens to be one of the best adoptive papas going, hes a bit like a goose in that way!
Wobbo and wife are currently sitting on a nest with one egg, the first didnt take. I popped baby woodie under pappa and he was accepted immediately and has since been fed. Now this is a risky one and I definitely wouldn't try this with a lot of my birds... Tried it with r Dottie once and after 20 mins she tried flinging baby from the nest đĢ đĢ (baby was fine and reared by me).
Wobbo and wife have successfully reared about 10 adoptive babies. 2 of those being woodies. Now with baby being a woodie I will make sure once hes older he will spend time wilding up in the woodie avairy before released, so fear not he will identify as a feral đâ¤ī¸ Pigeons and doves separate off from their family fairly quickly once fully fledged, and although fledglings will continue to follow around their parents for a while on the beg for food, their family relationship will soon end and parents will start the reproduction process again đ
God bless you Wobbo and wife thank you for your continued service!!
Morning all! I am looking for some volunteers to help me tame our wood! Its getting harder to try and run the rescue on my own, and the biggest help I could use at the moment is help sorting out the wood.. the wild over growth and some digging etc. Anybody fancy volunteering... I beggarth!!! đđĢ

So sadly today I attended a funeral of a dear neighbour, a neighbour that felt like a grandparent and was a powerhouse of a woman, someone that just cared for everybody.
During the wake I noticed a young crow hopping around, I waited and observed, but when he (or she) ended up in the middle of a busy main road I very quickly hot footed it over. On closer inspection, little carrion crow was in definite need of help đĨš I picked him up and he was underweight, and missing quite a few feathers in different areas. I don't quickly intervene with crows and rooks, as they do spend time on the ground in earlier years being looked after, and fed by family members... but I know enough to know this little one was in need of help.
I took little crow back to the wake and got straight on with some hydration. Corvids need a very high protein based diet, and I used the best thing to hand which was some boiled egg, not fully ideal but acceptable. I fed little crow small bits dipped in water and he was very grateful for all of it and just sat there calmly. Now when I say calmly, a young wild crow shouldn't be calm and happy to be handled if nothing was wrong. There will of been a huge element of shock, hunger, dehydration etc.
Fast forward a few hours and our little one was much more in wild and vocal in character... exactly what we want.
Next week he will go to my wonderful friend Willow at Ilkeston Wild Bird Rescue to be reared with her gang of carrions, and will be in the most suitable hands, and with others of his (her) kind.
I don't name every bird, but this is a sign that this wee babe must be 'Sandra' đ After my lovely friend that we waved farewell to today, who would of hugely lol'd and called me a silly bu**er đ

If there anyone Gainsborough way that could possible help with a feral pigeon? Its outside the Savoy cinema in need of help. Sadly I am just on my way to a funeral so couldn't get over that way until later today đĒ
I just want to say the biggest thank you my lovely friend Glenn Slaney (and Bec) at Warsop Wildlife Rescue Team for meeting me today to take a grounded swift and a very sassy young Maggy!! You guys are the best đĨšđ
