These are folks that are out on our streams on a monthly basis testing local water quality. It is a great way to meet new people, help your community, assist the environment, and get outdoors in every season. If interested contact the Lancaster County Conservation District to learn more and see how you can help our streams in 2020.
What is WQVC?
The Water Quality Volunteer Coalition is a dedicated group of community members volunteering their time to sample local streams and creeks in Lancaster County. The data these volunteers gather is vital to determining overall water quality of the county. Volunteers in the program are trained in chemical, physical, and biological sampling and go out on a monthly basis to conduct their tests. Their data is entered into a statewide database and our county-wide database for anyone to access through the internet. The WQVC has meetings on an every other month basis as well to discuss issues they may be having at their sites or to learn about watershed stewardship.
Join the Conservancy to sample streams at Climbers Run Nature Preserve (Susquehanna Riverlands Research & Education Center) in Pequea, PA. The Water Quality Volunteer Coalition (WQVC) program is a partnership program with the Lancaster Conservation District, and community partners. Conduct testing on streams like Climbers Run, Kellys Run, Pequea Creek, Fishing Creek, Steinman Run, Tucquan Glen/Pyfer and Trout Run in southern Lancaster County.
The WQVC meets at 9 a.m. the second Saturday of every month. Learn how to monitor stream health:
