As the weather gets colder, the possibility of ice dams forming on your roof gets higher. Ice dams, or thick ridges of solid ice that build up along the eaves of your home, can cause water to back up and leak into your house.
Ice dams are not a roof installation or warranty issue. Rather, they are a product of insulation. We are proactively reaching out to customers who have had a new roof installed within the last two years to share tips on dealing with ice dams, and to guide you in the right direction should you need further assistance.
If you have ice dams or see icicles along your roof, clear out snow to prevent leaks. We recommend pulling off snow with a long handled aluminum roof rake; this will instantly change the exterior temperature of your roof without damaging shingles.
Additionally, it is important to note that the use of humidifiers can increase condensation within the home. To save yourself trouble, make sure that your home is adequately ventilated. Proper airflow will help reduce the chances of unwanted moisture and leaks.
If you need further assistance with removing ice damns or insulating your home, we recommend contacting Ice Dam Guys, America's premier ice dam removal company. They are available by phone daily from 6am-11pm and can be reached by calling 1(800) ICE-DAMS.
