If operators can move past the risk of bringing liquid into close proximity of high-tech racks, there is a real opportunity for long-term progression. While some data centres may not need right now, it is important for operators to consider the future of their facilities.

Power demand will only grow throughout the coming years as continues to thrive.

They will also need to increasingly utilise more floor space to accommodate the new levels of data hyperscalers, enterprises, and content companies, and OTT players are bringing.

Can Your Data Centre Take the Heat? Building Data Centres that can Manage Extreme Temperatures 21/09/2022

“Data centres are a lot like cars that are overheating. If you load a car with a lot of passengers or heavy cargo, the car will struggle to operate like it does in normal circumstances. It won’t go as fast, performance will be impacted, then eventually it will just break down.

Surging temperatures are increasingly putting the pressure on, and heat rejection is impacting power and cooling plants more frequently. If servers go down, the data centre’s reputation will be affected, and customers will be less trusting of where their is being stored.”

Noriel Ong, Senior Manager – Design, Data Centres at EDGNEX

As the mission to maintain ambient temperatures for increasing workloads and ever-growing rack densities in data centres grows, the transition to new methods such as increases.

When digital infrastructure providers increase output, they’re also increasing the power used and therefore the amount of heat produced.

The change in requirements is causing problems within the industry because operators must maintain safe temperatures within facilities.

So, as data centre operators begin to consider liquid cooling more seriously, how will it affect the design, safety, and overall efficiency in years to come? Read more in our article:
