I have created this page to document the progress of turning my wife’s 64 Pontiac LeMans convertible into the car of our dreams.

A little late on this post. Some pictures of our trip from Rockford, IL to Pontiac, MI. for the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Took an award at Pontiac Adventures this weekend up in Wisconsin Dells with the 64 LeMans. Best Classic Pontiac presented by Wizards of Rods car club. Unfortunately I lost a clutch throwout bearing on one of the tours and had to make arrangements for a trailer to get her home. Not looking forward to pulling the TKX out. May change over to a hydraulic clutch while I’m in there.

Haven’t posted in awhile. Had a good time on Saturday at Tires and Tacos put on by Community of Christ Church. Took the G8 after I could not get the 64 to start. Luckily I had cleaned it up on Friday after returning from the Woodward Dream Cruise and a visit with friends and family in Michigan.

So, if you have been following my projects on my wive’s 64 LeMans you will remember i was installing HO exhaust manifolds this winter. Yes, I know its a one day project but for some reason it has been a winter of low motivation. So ran into 2 problems, the clutch petal return spring mounting and the battery cable relocation. The return spring was a simple fix of a steel strap with several holes in it. For the battey cable I bought the Ames HO battery tube but it didn’t seem to fit on the top side of the motor mount like the instutions showed. So i flipped it over and ran it on the bottom side of the motor mount. Had to use long screws wirh locking nuts as the bracket would not sit flush but I like how it came out.

So I read somewhere that convertibles have taller door windows than hardtops to help them seal against the top. I have sealing issues with our 64 LeMans convertible. The rail at the bottom of the glass hits the window felt in the door but i still don’t have a tight seal to the top. So I figured I may have non-convertible door glass. Is there a height dimension for the convertible door glass so I can confirm I have the correct glass?

OK, for those that put RARE HO exhaust on 64/65 LeMans/GTO how did you run the battery cable. Is there a 67 GTO battery cable tube available that can be used? If so, from where? Did you fabricate something? Photos would be great!

Need some help with a problem vibration at RPM since installing TKX transmission. The install instructions recommended resurfacing the flywheel and balancing it with the clutch plate installed. I resurfaced it, but skipped the balancing because Pontiac engines have an externally balance offset at the flywheel. The car was cammed when I bought it and has a year newer block than the car so I assume it was rebuilt. What I do not know is if it had been internally balanced. Also done at the time the TKX was installed was a new clutch and driveshaft both ordered through Silversport Transmissions. Now that I have a vibration I never had before the TKX install, should I pull the flywheel and have it balanced with the pressure plate assuming it is the new pressure plate. What if I do that and the vibration is worse because I eliminated the natual offset?

Recommendations please.

For those who have installed HO exhaust manifolds on a 64 LeMans/GTO. The clutch petal return spring used to connect to the exhaust to manifold clamp but the new manifolds/clamps have no provision for it. What did you hook it to? Did you have to fabricate something? Pictures if you got them please.
