VETO SMILEY! The fight continues for a more affordable Providence! Do not give into despair! The people of Providence are a creative bunch and POWR believes we can build a fighting working class tenants movement that can truly build a city that works for everyone! We need real rent controls that lower rents! We need to stop evictions into homelessness! We need safe homes for all, including seizing existing slum properties and renovating them as well as building new homes for working people! Join POWR Tuesday April 21st 6:30 @ 95 Empire Street. Together we can build a movement to VETO SMILEY, LANDLORDS, and LOWER THE RENT!!!

The raggedy one strikes again with a “genius” proposal to subsidize his friends in the landlord class! Instead of supporting common sense and moderate rent regulations or real eviction protections, starting on the campaign trail has announced $1 million in one time rental assistance up to $3000 per applicant, and $500k in eviction “diversion” instead of instituting a legal right to a lawyer or ending evictions without cause. While we welcome any relief for renters and their families, this would only help a few hundred tenants, and we all know BECAUSE WE ARE TENANTS OURSELVES that during the pandemic rent relief encouraged landlords to jack up rents and push their tenants to apply for assistance! We need band aids, but we also need transformational change that actually puts checks on the real estate lobby and landlord class! We need a rent freeze and lower rents! We need public housing for all! Socialize the slumlords!
