It’s especially meaningful that these benefits were specific to late-life activity and were even seen in people with markers of Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

This Is the Single Best Thing You Can Possibly Do for Your Cast Iron Skillet — Apartment Therapy 21/01/2021

I can’t say enough about my Lodge Cast Iron Skillet. Honestly, everything tastes better when I cook with it. Whether stir fried veggies, stove top to oven dishes (see my ridiculously simple chicken fajitas recipe), braised dishes like chicken cacciatore or gluten free natural sugar cakes - it does it all.

Unfortunately, I didn’t always feel this way or use it often. I made the mistake of letting a new skillet develop rust spots years ago when I left water in the pan to soak. Big mistake. As a result I got rid of the pan and decided it just wasn’t my thing.

So after being encouraged by a friend who loves her cast iron skillet, I decided to give it a try again. Boy am I glad I did!

To keep my skillet in tip top shape, I clean it the second I’m finished using it - usually while it’s still hot - then I add about a tablespoon of olive oil to the pan and rub it in with a paper towel. I’ve noticed the coating is getting better and better and more seasoned. It doesn’t seem to be as prone to rust if I keep water in it a little too long.

This article provides some great tips for using cast iron. I hope you consider buying a skillet. I know you’ll end up liking it as much as I do.

This Is the Single Best Thing You Can Possibly Do for Your Cast Iron Skillet — Apartment Therapy Earlier this year, around the time when we were still excited about , I read “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck.
