How do you create content pillars? 🤔

First, you need to figure out who you're speaking to. Who is your audience?
⭐ Which platforms is you audience active on?
⭐ What topics are they interested in?
⭐ What are their values?
⭐ What are their pain points, and what can you do to solve them?

Next, you need to research your competitors.
⭐ What types of content are performing well for them?
⭐ What can you do differently to make you stand out?
One thing to keep in mind when researching your competitors is, you don't need to copy their content. You can draw inspiration, but you need to find what makes you different!

What is trending in your industry?
⭐ Keep up with professionals in the industry
⭐ Stay up to date with recent publications, articles, and books
⭐ Attend seminars/webinars
⭐ Get involved with online communities! (Facebook is a great resource for this)

Lastly, perform a social media audit and discover what is working and what is not.
⭐ Track engagement
⭐ Look at audience retention for video content
⭐ Which posts are gaining you more followers?
⭐ What types of content have a higher reach? What is the ratio of followers to non-followers?

After all of this, you'll be able to create a set of content pillars that contain the types of content that your audience is most likely to be interested in and engaged with!

HOT TAKE: You don't need a degree in Marketing to be a Social Media Manager 🫢

I have a degree in Marketing & Communications and I am here to tell you that it is not necessary! It has certainly helped get me started, however if you are wanting to pursue a career in Social Media Management, there are very few things that you actually need to get started!

⭐️ A Phone
⭐️ Internet Connection
⭐️ A creative mind
..and most importantly a willingness to learn!

There is nothing about social media that you can't learn from watching videos, reading articles, and truly devoting your time to educate yourself on the platforms you'd like to specialize in.

This isn't to say that being a Social Media Manager is easy. With a career in social media, you never stop learning. The algorithm is always changing, platforms are always updating, and trends are always shifting. There is never not something new to learn!

So, if you are really interested in becoming a Social Media Manager, YOU CAN DO IT! Just start your learning today!

4 apps I use every day as a Social Media Manager! 👇🏻👇🏻

⭐️ Canva is without a doubt the most used app on my phone! I use a lot of the features Canva Pro offers but most often I use it to create graphics and plan out each day of content with the Content Planner!
⭐️ Lightroom is great for editing and making presets! I like that I can edit lighting and add presets to videos!
⭐️ Buffer is the scheduling software I use! Not only can I schedule but I can also create analytic reports!
⭐️ CapCut is the app I use to edit reels, tiktoks and other short video!

Everyone has struggled with engagement! Here is my advice to you 👇🏻

⭐️ Try posting different kinds of content and see what performs better! Reels? Carousel posts? Static posts?
⭐️ Also try out different styles of content. Track what is performing better. Educational? Relatable? Inspirational content?

Once you find the type and style of content that performs best for you, it will help you shift your strategy!
