The Unilever Future Leaders Programme (UFLP) is a 3-year scheme designed to prepare graduates for business leadership roles. The programme consists of a number of placements within and across functions, formal training, and business mentorships.

Meet Tasnim, a graduate on our UFLP Customer Development scheme!

Tasnim currently manages the Ocado account, integrating ways of working to ensure everything runs smoothly. Tasnim also works on sustainability, and one of her current responsibilities is looking into ways to bring sustainability into the digital world with Ocado.

Outside of role, Tasnim is part of our Empower network, and is also one of the Customer Development contacts for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Tasmin had this to say about her work as CD ED&I contact:

“My role is to be the bridge between UK/I led ED&I initiatives and the customer teams. So far, I have initiated conversations with wider customer teams to understand ED&I strategies in Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Co-op, so that we are able to gain valuable feedback to help get the Unilever ED&I strategy right.”

Meet Joy, a placement student on our IP/SP Marketing scheme. Joy currently works as an assistant brand manager in the Magnum team, covering many campaigns across traditional and digital channels.

Outside of role, Joy is also part of our Empower network, which aims to create a workplace community where our ethnic minority colleagues can be their authentic selves and thrive, where every culture is celebrated, but also to create a community for allies to drive meaningful change across our full organisation.

Hannah is a graduate student on our UFLP Technology Management scheme.

Hannah recently finished her placement in the UKI Data & Analytics team, where she led a team of data scientists and analysts! Outside of her placement, Hannah is part of our Women in Tech network, and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Gender Squad. Hannah had this to say about her work in the networks:

“I led the rollout of a global survey in UniOps to understand the diversity of our organisation, we have analysed the data and are now working closely with EDI squads to act on the data and improve on certain pain points that we have identified”.

Last Week our co-chairs, Tyler Lee and Austin Key, of the proUd network, were awarded the UK Rainbow Award Outstanding Network Lead for Unilever’s UKI proUd Network!

Meet Momeena, a degree apprentice on our Level 6 IT Degree Apprenticeship.

Momeena currently works as a Digital Commerce Analyst in the Digital Commerce Team. When asked about value of her placement, Momeena had this to say:

“Working in the technology function, you get exposed to a range of projects, teams, and processes. This has given me the opportunity to contribute to Unilever’s innovation strategies and the digital landscape including the metaverse (e.g. Virtual Reality). I am excited to be involved in the latest technology trends, helping to shape the future and contributing to Unilever’s growth”.

Outside of her placement, Momeena is a committee member of our Women in Tech network. Momeena had this to say on her time in WIT and other networks:

“I have been a committee member of Unilever's Women In Tech network since 2021. I have expanded the network and organised email/teams distribution lists to keep track of our members subscription preferences, and applied for external awards to raise awareness and recognition of Unilever's WIT network. I have also been a part of the IamRemarkable initiative (powered by Google) and hope that I have inspired and encouraged attendees to recognise their achievements and feel empowered. I am currently working in the Communications team, and I help inform members on our Yammer and Teams channels about upcoming events that are tech-related but also topics related to ED&I (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion)”.

During Pride month 2023 and every year we celebrate the LGBTQI+ community throughout our business. But beyond the four weeks of events and activations, Unilever has a number of networks and initiatives that support our LGBTQI+ colleagues. We were delighted to speak with 30 Associates from upReach about demonstrating their potential in their applications! For the upReach Virtual Careers Academy, Associates were given bite-sized research tasks to improve their understanding of the Unilever business, and identified baseline attributes in candidate case studies to demonstrate how they can put their best foot forward in their application.

A study by professors at the London School of Economics found that students from a working-class background are less likely to have access to connections and networks through family and school, making it harder to land early work experience. On our Future Careers Schemes we do not judge candidates based on how much relevant work experience you have, and with a bit of practice and research you can demonstrate your potential and your interest in the scheme you are applying for.

We were able to show Associates that the experience you have with student groups and volunteering, or highlighting specific campaigns or news stories you find, can show us in our application that you are enthusiastic about the FMCG sector and the scheme you are applying for.

Meet Pip, a UFLP Marketing Graduate!

Pip works as an Assistant Brand Manager for the skincare brand, Simple. Pip has contributed to summer campaigns and TikTok content.

Outside of her role in simple, Pip is part of the Enable network. Specifically, the All Inclusive Club that connects and provides feedback on digital platforms and brand experience tools to ensure they are accessible to all users.
