Part 3 of the Sri Lanka Chronicles up on the blog. Black and white edition.
Travel Diary - Sri Lanka Part 3: Black and White Edition — Lee Starnes Photography | Product | Food | Beverage | Travel | Vietnam Photographer As previously mentioned, I got a bit enthusiastic with my penchant for hitting the shutter and ended up with a mountain of images to go through. Normally, I try to cull down the numbers to have one of these posts, but it didn’t work out that way this time around. I generally don’t like mixing bl...
Part 2 of the Sri Lankan Chronicles. Down to the beach!
Travel Diary - Sri Lanka Part 2 : Southern Beaches and Galle — Lee Starnes Photography | Product | Food | Beverage | Travel | Vietnam Photographer Making my way south from Columbo, I hopped on a train without a reserved seat. Needless to say it was an experience in standing less than 2 millimeters from every person on the train. Get in where you fit in is the name of the game. After getting off the train, I finally exhaled fully after basicall
New images up on the blog. Part 1 of 3!
Travel Diary - Sri Lanka Part 1 : Columbo — Lee Starnes Photography | Product | Food | Beverage | Travel | Vietnam Photographer I got a little shutter happy this past trip to Sri Lanka and ended up with far more images that I cared to sift through, but with that, I had the fun problem of trying to pare down the mountains of images into something that would be not akin to drinking out of a firehose. So, here we are. This firs

Travel Diary : Komodo and Nusa Penida, Indonesia — Lee Starnes Photography | Product | Food | Beverage | Travel | Vietnam Photographer It’s been crazy busy lately, so I’ve had a backlog of images from some travel earlier this year and I’m just now able to get to these. Over the summer, Komodo was calling and I definitely answered. The small town of Labuan Bajo was a dusty little town the last time I was there and while its st...

Sayulita Nights.
Probably my favourite frame from my time in Alor. Before hopping on the boat for a day of diving I wandered around the morning market in Alor Kecil. Incredible early morning light spilled into the market and I was spoiled for choice picking a frame to share. Vendors sold everything from dry goods to produce to the freshest catch coming in from the fishermen. What a magical place.
Some new work up on the blog for John Lyle Design. Thanks for the trust!
Recent Work: John Lyle Design — Lee Starnes Photography | Food | Beverage | Travel | Product | Vietnam Photographer Recently, the good people at John Lyle Design tapped us to make some images of their incredible furniture. After a visit to their workshop and watching the artisans craft these pieces, we knew we had to make some super clean images to showcase them the way they deserved. We had two looks - one on

Misty Hanoi evenings in the Old Quarter.
A few frames from last week’s show with The Black Lips and Skeleton Goode. Big ups to the folks at Loud Minority, Saigon for putting this together!
Live Music Recap: The Black Lips and Skeleton Goode — Lee Starnes Photography | Food | Beverage | Travel | Product | Vietnam Photographer Last week, Atlanta hometown heroes, The Black Lips played a small one off show here in Saigon after their gig at Coracle Music Fest up in Mui Ne. It was all a bit surreal as I’ve seen The Black Lips more times than I can probably count and it brought back memories of beer soaked ridiculous shenani...
These are the final images from the contact sheet posted yesterday from show here in Saigon. Such a fun night!
Some more playing with the fujix100s. Not sure I’d use this for shooting this type of stuff again. Not nearly quick enough in the autofocus but still got some fun frames from show last night. Awesome seeing some Atlanta music here in Saigon.

8 hours in Tokyo on a rainy afternoon. Quick stopover on the way to Mexico. Tokyo is such an amazing town for street shooting and while it was rainy and cold, it allowed for some moody atmospheric shots on the way to sunnier, warmer climates in the following days. Blog post to come with the entire batch.

Decided to leave my Sony kit at home and opt for a smaller camera to travel light and fast. I’ll let you guys have a guess at which little camera grabbed this shot of Nusa Penida. Leave your guesses in the comments and let’s see who is savvy.
While the coffee bean gets all the love, its mom, Cascara, gets far less shine. Cascara - literally meaning husk or peel in Spanish, is the cherry that surrounds each coffee bean pair. Brewed as a tea, it has less caffeine and has a taste somewhat reminiscent to hibiscus tea. Fruity and light, it's a nice alternative in the late afternoon. In the past, Cascara was considered a waste byproduct in coffee processing, but recently (at least in the west) it's become more and more readily available. This image is from and is available for purchase as a rolled print from .coffee in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
Beach barbecues are one of the best things ever and this one was no different. Fish from a local fisherman, veg from the market and a few cold brews as the sun comes down. Perfect.
Some of my favorite images from Dac Den Dang, The Vietnamese Coffee Book. Some of these will be available in limited edition prints through .coffee in the coming days so keep an eye out! The book goes on sale this week so contact Lacaph to preorder your copy before they sell out!
This has been a long time coming and I'm so over the moon happy to be able to finally share this with the world. We've finally gotten there after 2 long years through a pandemic working on this project. Dac Den Dang is finally printed and will be available through purchase in the next couple of days through .coffee! We wouldn't be here without the die hard perseverance and hard work of so many people. Thanks to the stars and back to the team at Lacaph for the trust, and I couldn't extend enough gratitude to Andy for your ride or die commitment to this. My hat goes off to you. Many thanks brother. Over 200 pages of information on one of Vietnam's great exports, the humble coffee bean. Past, present and future are all covered and we can't wait to see it grow ever more in the years to come. Prints will be available at the Lacaph space so please have a look.
Some new images up on the blog from a recent trip to Indonesia!
Travel Diary : Indonesia — Lee Starnes Photography | Food | Beverage | Travel | Product | Vietnam Photographer One of my favorite places on earth, Indonesia lures me back constantly with its beaches, rugged landscapes, underwater wonderlands, and general laid back lifestyle. This trip took me to Nusa Penida and Amed in Bali and the Derawan Islands in Indonesian Borneo.
The mighty absolutely killing it at 2022. Seeing friends from 20 years ago just crushing is one of the best things ever. What an amazing weekend!

The Discotheque Lounge. Augusta, Georgia 2022. A long standing landmark in downtown Augusta, this classic neon sign, along with its classy establishment has a date with the wrecking ball. I hope the sign lives to see the another day rather than just fading into history.
