The Republic of Uzbekistan Direct Investment Fund (UzDIF) is an investment fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan. UzDIF invests in leading and promising Uzbek companies through the provision of equity capital and debt financing. In all transactions, UzDIF acts as a co-investor together with leading international investors, in order to increase the inflow of foreign direct investment into republic.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan and U.S. Embassy Tashkent organized a virtual panel discussion on October 31 for AmCham members on U.S. export controls and sanctions.
U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security export control officer Craig Phildius and corporate/sanctions lawyer Laura Brank, a partner with Dechert LLP, presented information on how to comply with U.S. laws and regulations.
On October 24, CIPE hosted a conference on "Strengthening the Role of Business Associations in Policy Making and Expanding Opportunities for Regional Cooperation" in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
✅During the panel on “Challenges and problems of functioning of associations and doing business in new geopolitical realities”, Tatyana Bystrushkina, Executive Director of AmCham Uzbekistan, presented the results of the survey on “Impact of Global Economic Challenges and Sanctions on Business in Uzbekistan” conducted by AmCham Uzbekistan.

On October 17, AmCham Uzbekistan held the first CSR Awards Ceremony!
▶️The goal of the award is to raise awareness on CSR projects implemented by our member companies and to highlight the impact they are having on all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental.
▶️AmCham Uzbekistan has awarded 15 CSR projects in the environment, women empowerment, care, education, and social innovation categories, among which 5 were implemented as part of the activities of the AmCham CSR Committee.

On October 17th, on the occasion of 25th Anniversary, American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan held AmCham 25th Anniversary CSR Ball.

Summit gathered over 150 CEOs, Board Members, and owners of leading companies from Central Asia and other countries.

On September 8th, within the Regional Trip to Istanbul, Turkey, delegation of AmCham Uzbekistan: representatives from Artel, “AFS-Research” LLC, Paynet along with delegations of AmCham Kyrgyz Republic and AmCham Tajikistan, attended the visit tour to 3M.

🇹🇷On September 7th, within the Regional Trip to Istanbul, Turkey, delegation of AmCham Uzbekistan: representatives from Artel, “AFS-Research” LLC, Paynet along with delegations of AmCham Kyrgyz Republic and AmCham Tajikistan, attended the visit tour to MEXT, Turkey’s largest, the most innovative technology center.
MEXT provide their members with direct support and guidance on capability development, workforce up-skilling and digital transformation journey towards Industry 4.0. Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries created an ecosystem made up of more than 30 globally recognized technology providers, universities, and institutions to put MEXT into practice. MEXT provides its visitors with a model factory, showcases, a training area, office spaces, a co-working area with ecosystem players, a conference center for summits, and many more.

Day 2 of US - Central Asia regional working group meetings on Digital Trade and Women’s Economic Empowerment is dedicated to the topics of Trustworthy Digital Trade: data governance, data protection, cybersecurity, and cross border data flows.
During the session on Cybersecurity, Nikolay Yarmov, Senior AmCham Advisor, AmCham Digital Transformation Committee Chair, along with other experts touched upon such issues as:
• Role of cybersecurity and cybercrime laws in digital trade
• Cybersecurity fundamentals: breaking down the political, social, economic, legal, and technical dimensions
• International frameworks, standards, best practices, and mechanisms for cooperation
• Best practices and case studies on implementation and enforcement for emerging economies
Today delegation of AmCham Uzbekistan arrived in Istanbul, Turkey to attend first ever joint US - Central Asia regional working group meeting on Digital Trade and Women’s Economic Empowerment organized by CLDP and US Department of Commerce.
The 4-day workshop aims to generate actionable recommendations/solutions for e-commerce development and to broaden women’s access to national, regional, and international markets and commercial opportunities.

On August 24th, AmCham Board of Directors and Platinum Members discussed the success of US-Uzbek bilateral cooperation, ongoing economic and legislative reforms conducive for foreign investors during the working lunch with Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis.
AmCham Uzbekistan Board of Directors met with US Congressional Delegation on August 22, 2022.
The prospects of US- Uzbek cooperation was discussed during the meeting with Trent Kelly, Republican Congressman from Mississippi,
co-chairman of the "Caucus on Uzbekistan" in the US Congress, and a member of the Committee on Ways and Means, Republican Congressman from Illinois Darin Lahoud, as well as their staffers.
On August 11th, AmCham Uzbekistan held Membership Committee Meeting with Oybek Khalilov, President of AmCham Uzbekistan, General Director at Azimuth Insurance Company.

▶️On June 29th, AmCham HR Committee organized a round table on changes in the Labor Code with the authors of New Labor Code: Mikhail Gasanov and Alexander Navotny.
▫️New Uzbek Labor Code evoked ambiguous reaction from different stakeholders. Based on the international conventions and guided by ILO principles to protect employees it still puts huge pressure on employers. Back 2 years ago about 30% of AmCham HR Committee recommendations were accepted in the first hearings of the Labor Code in the Senate.
✅During the discussion, the authors of the new Labor Code noted that the emphasis on the exclusion of any kind of discrimination, as well as on the establishment of labor standards in companies, has been strengthened.
✔️Final version approved by Senate of Oliy Majlis comprise of 581 articles. About 90 articles were removed. Still, there are over 90 by - laws valid as an addition to the Code. The Code is expected to take effect in 6 months after it is signed by the President and published.

✔️As part of the business trip to the Washington DC, Tatyana Bystrushkina, Executive Director of AmCham Uzbekistan and Dan Patterson, AmCham Uzbekistan BOD Member, met with Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator, USAID, Asia, RRB and team.
▶️The importance of facilitating dialogue between domestic companies and government authorities on trade policy and practice, as well as enhancing the assistance on competitiveness of the private sector through trade, was discussed during the meeting.
