I am pleased and proud to introduce the designs created for the 15th year of the Get Outdoors(GO) York! program, proudly sponsored by WellSpan Health, York County Library System, and York County Parks. The theme this year is oceanography, as they encourage everyone to GO and Dive Deep! at 30 different locations in York. Go to any York County Library to register and pick up the materials, and Get Outdoors all over York County. The program has expanded to include nearby counties, and this year added its 6th county, Cumberland! Look for programs in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York. For more information, visit www.goyork.org. πΏπ³π²

Wherever or however you are celebrating, have a great holiday weekend!

We're getting closer, and so are the trips down the Get Outdoors "memory lane." The year? 2013. The mission? Go and Dig it Up! We're not sure how many people actually dug up a garden that year, but the theme was centered on things that grow in or around your garden. 30 fruits, vegetables, and even a w**d were included with fun facts (Information to "dig" into!), suggested books, and the usual hikes around York County. The 2013 program was the last of its kind... more information on that in the next installment!

Okay, we've had these traps on our kitchen counters for about three weeks, but the ants are as present as ever! What's your fail-safe solution to get rid of ants? πππ

Another memory from the Get Outdoors (GO) York! archives, this time from 2011, when participants were encouraged to GO and Explore Your World. This was a whirlwind international tour without ever having to leave York County! Along with fun facts about each country, as well as book suggestions to learn more, hikers could take their "passports" along as they discovered each post and rubbed each country's stamp onto their sheets. Year #4 gave everyone the chance to go around the world in a lot fewer than 80 days!

While we wait for this year's program to launch, let's visit another past year from the archives, 2010. This third year of the Get Outdoors (GO) York! program encouraged participants to "Make a Splash" as they searched for posts that all related to the water-based theme. 4-digit codes were again used to unlock a colorful illustration piece by piece, and when it was completed a coloring page was available to download. There was plenty of outdoor Summer fun for everyone!

Wishing the happiest Easter to those who celebrate!

Great things ahead in 2021!

So thankful for the blessings of family and friends!

Set the time travel machine to 2009, the second year of Get Outdoors, GO and Be Creative! This was the first year the "Get Outdoors" name was used, and there were other changes as well. The first website was launched, the rubber stamps were changed to posts with embossed plates, the entry form was a separate sheet that could be removed from the book and turned in for prizes, and 4-digit codes were added to each post, enabling participants to enter each code on the website and reveal a picture and coloring page to download. The format of the book changed from vertical to horizontal to resemble an artist's sketchbook, and the website provided an additional way for families to access the program's information, linking to the library's website for entering reading hours.

Who wants to go for a stroll down memory lane? Just 11 years ago, in 2008, the Get Outdoors program was launched with a Field Guide that encouraged all participants to "Catch the Activity Bug." The book was larger than today's guides, and instead of embossed rubbing plates on posts, clues were given to direct everyone to 30 different rubber stamps, each featuring an insect that was described in more detail in the Field Guide. There was no separate sheet β the images were stamped on the corresponding page in the book. What hasn't changes since then are the clues to follow, fun facts about each themed icon, and recommended books to read more about the subject. Stay tuned for more memories in July!

However you celebrate the season, may you be blessed, at peace, and surrounded by those you love!

So glad to be part of this wonderful program for children and families in York County, now in its 11th year of getting everyone outdoors and moving!
Okay, Olympics fans... which country has the best opening ceremony outfits?

We're celebrating 10 years of this great summer activity and reading program for children and families! The 2017 Get Outdoors (GO) and Build a Better World! program will be streaming into libraries and across the web in FOUR locations this year β York, Ephrata, Lebanon, and Adams County. Get your Blueprints (program guides) starting Saturday, June 3 at a library location near you! Throughout the summer, we'll be taking a look back at this adventurous program that has brought miles and miles of activity fun to families in York County. Stay tuned for some great memories!

Another project hot off the presses, this time for the Roads to Freedom Task Force in Adams County... just in time for the 150th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Sneak Preview for 2013! The Get Outdoors (GO) York and York County Libraries' Summer program book. Now that's some fun you can really dig!

Ahhh... Summer vacation. Anyone making their plans yet?
In 2013, I will define my opportunities, not be defined by them.

Truth...

A day of remembering.
