IMPORTANT NOTICE: New Visa Application Norms for applicants of Indian Origin:

All applicants of Indian Origin with US Passports, applying for Tourist Visas are herewith advised to apply for longer term 10 year duration visas only.

Short term visas (less than 10 years duration) are only granted to applicants who:
1. Have already applied for PIO / OCI and are awaiting process completion;
2. Non US passport holders
3. Applicants applying for Emergency visas
4. For Minors (5 years only)
5. Any other category which the Consulate decides as per Government of India Regulations.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you ever held an Indian Passport, it is mandatory to provide proof of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship along with your Visa / OCI / PIO application. Please click here www.in.ckgs.us/renunciation.shtml for document checklist, forms and fees.

Transfer of Valid visa from Expired US passport to New US passport
The validity of an existing visa does not expire if holder acquires a new passport (if old passport has expired or is damaged), as long as personal particulars and nationality of the holder have not changed. The visa holder can travel carrying old passport with valid Indian visa along with new passport. However, if such a visa holder wishes to formally transfer the visa for the remaining period of the duration of the visa onto the new passport, you may please review the Transfer of Entry Visa requirements, Transfer of Business Visa requirements, Transfer of Tourist Visa requirements for more info. New Visa / PIO Announcements
New Tourist Visa norms for US nationals:
The Govt. of India has directed that, apart from special circumstances, Indian Missions / Posts in the United States of America will grant Multi entry Tourist Visa for a period of 10 years to the Nationals of the United States of America with a stipulation that "continuous period of stay during each visit will not exceed 180 days and no registration will be required". The stipulated fee for a ten year Tourist Visa shall be USD 150.

New Rules for PIO
Effective 30th September 2014 – as per the Notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the PIO Rules have changed:
A PIO Card issued to an applicant shall be valid for his lifetime from the date of its issue provided that such applicant has a valid US or Foreign Passport.
The above is valid for existing PIO Cards and as well as New PIO Cards issued post 30th September 2014.
PIO Cards holders if staying in India for a period of over 6 months need not go to FRRO (Local) and get their extended stay endorsed. This ruling is done away with.

Research Scholars will apply directly to Embassy of India, Washington DC or the Consulates General at Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York and San Francisco depending on the jurisdiction under which the Scholar's residential status falls.
Applications need to be submitted in person either by applicants themselves or by any designated nodal officer of the USIEF at the Embassy / Consulates during consular hours. The applications should be submitted at least one week in advance.
All Visa applications sent by Post shall be submitted only through Cox and Kings Global Services Pvt. Ltd. (CKGS). Postal applications shall not be accepted by the Embassy / Consulates directly.
No Visa fees shall be charged for issuance of Visas to Fulbright-Nehru Scholarship grantees and their dependents.
