Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we honor that freedom, remember the struggle behind it, and recommit to the work still ahead. Happy Juneteenth. ✊🏾

On Loving Day, we honor Philip Hirschkop, the last living attorney from the landmark Loving v. Virginia case. His work on behalf of Mildred and Richard Loving helped overturn discriminatory laws across the country, reshaped our nation’s understanding of equality and ensured that love—not race—determines whom we marry.
