Howdy. We are rolling again. This has been a very challenging spring. Tune in tonight to Farm Green live podcast. Bring your questions and I hope we have some answers. Be safe!

#plant22 has officially started on this windy April afternoon! We’re starting by drilling a field of #organic soybeans. 🌱 . . . . . . . #plant22 #soybeans #covercrops #notill #organic #organicfarming #regenerativefarm #regenerativesoilpractices #regenerativeagriculture #farmingwithcovers #aglife #johndeere #notillrevelution #farmgreen #farminggreen #soilhealth #buildingsoilhealth

It’s time to start checking on the cover crops! This soon to be 2 year old is excited to get back in the fields.

Join Rick Clark as he launches his new podcast "Farm Green", where he will discuss all things soil health and regenerative LIVE, enabling listeners to ask questions and engage in conversation. In the inaugural episode, Rick will be joined by Loran Steinlage and Jimmy Emmons as they continue their conversation from the National NoTill Conference, where they discussed farming, family, and unexpected obstacles. To participate, register at https://www.agsoilregen.com/event-info/farm-green-with-rick-clark-2022-02-03-18-00.

We wanted to update the ongoing cold tolerant pea trials. The first thing we want you to notice is the fact that you can’t even tell that we drilled this field with peas into the wheat 2 1/4” deep. These peas were planted on December 1st. In just 14 days look at the growth they have already accomplished. Again, these peas are going to be a way to combat synthetic nitrogen prices. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! Stay tuned for more pea updates! . . . . . . . #wheat #soybeans #corn #covercrops #notill #organic #organicfarming #regenerativefarm #regenerativesoilpractices #regenerativeagriculture #farmingwithcovers #aglife #johndeere #notillrevelution #farmgreen #farminggreen #soilhealth #buildingsoilhealth

We want to talk a little more about planting peas in December. This is a big deal. If we can plant cold tolerant peas this late in the season, look at how much we have widened the window to plant legumes for next years corn. This benefits everyone. Stay tuned for updates. With input costs continuing to rise, we have to look at cheaper alternatives of N. On November 30th We are planting cheap N. Cold tolerant peas that will survive the winter and fix a bunch of free N next spring. We are constantly using alternative sources to eliminate the need for synthetic fertilizers. . . . . . . . #covercrop2021 #plant #covercrops #notill #organic #organicfarming #regenerativefarm #regenerativesoilpractices #regenerativeagriculture #farmingwithcovers #aglife #johndeere #notillrevelution #farmgreen #farminggreen #soilhealth #buildingsoilhealth

We had a great 7 day run starting #harvest2021 . We’re utilizing this weather change to drill some cover crops and #organic wheat. . . . . . . . #harvest2021 #soybeans #covercrops #notill #organic #organicfarming #regenerativefarm #regenerativesoilpractices #regenerativeagriculture #farmingwithcovers #aglife #johndeere #notillrevelution #farmgreen #farminggreen #soilhealth #buildingsoilhealth #harvest #wheat

Another beautiful fall day spent drilling our “corn fuel”. We are preparing this field for our 2021 organic corn crop. Our corn fuel cocktail consists of cereal rye, fixation clover, and hairy vetch. #covercrops #organic #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #farm #cornfuel #humanhealth #notill #notillfarming #soilhealth #organicfarming

Another crop rotation that is critical to our success is wheat. We’re constantly rotating crops and cover crops to get a broad array of diversity in these fields. The diversity allows us to continue to build #soilhealth #covercrops #wheat #diversity #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #farmgreen #regenerative

Howdy Everyone. #harvest2020 has begun. That leads the way to the most important job on the farm. Planting the #covercrops . Here we are planting a mix that I call corn fuel. It can be found at #greencoverseed. This cocktail contains mammoth red clover. It is a one clip clover. The plan next spring will be to no till corn and then flail chop the clover and then it will only regrow 4”-6” tall. Perfect for our no till organic system. Remember the success of next years cash crop begins with the success of this years cover crop. Have a good one. -Rick #covercrops #nongmo #organic #regenerativefarm #regenerativesoilpractices #regenerativeagriculture #clover

We are always educating and telling our story. This morning we had the privilege of meeting with @greenamerica_ and discussing our farming practices. #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #organic #nongmo #soilhealth #humanhealth #covercrops

Howdy, Everyone. We are starting yellow pea harvest for #puris. Swathing is the first step of the process. More updates to come. #purisfoods #organic #peas #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #farm #farmgreen #humanhealth #soilhealth #soilregeneration #soilscience #notill #notillfarming

Howdy everyone! Update on no till organic corn into standing alfalfa, then roll crimping with the I&J roller crimper with chevrons. Everything went according to plan except for the third, fourth, and fifth wave of black cut worm. They decimated the corn. The corn that survived was climbing through the alfalfa canopy, but the stand was below 15k plants per acre. So, we now implement plan M. Replant corn and then flail chop alfalfa tight to the ground 4-5 days after planting. I want to flail chop instead of roll again for a couple of reasons. First reason, the roller will not do a very good job of laying the alfalfa flat because the plant is half flat and about 28” long. Second reason, the flail chopper will mow tight and start the mulching process. The downside is that the alfalfa will want to regrow and take moisture for the corn. Time will tell. We have to remain flexible and roll with Mother Nature. Stay tuned. #rollercrimper #flailmower #alfalfa #corn #organic #organicfarming #soilhealth #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #humanhealth

Howdy. This is step 2 in the no till planting organic corn into standing alfalfa. Today we are roll crimping the alfalfa 4 days after planting. The hope here is that at least 1/2 of the alfalfa will stay down until v1 corn growth stage. We will roll again at that point. This rolling flat will not terminate the alfalfa, but it will put the corn on an even playing field. The corn should leap out and take off. Our 20” rows will canopy at v6 and the alfalfa will start to be smothered. We are going to show this system through several more steps in the future. Be patient, more to come. #alfalfa #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #farm #farmgreen #organic #organicfarming #soilhealth #soilscience #humanhealth #roller #rollercrimper #notill

We are no tilling organic corn into standing alfalfa. This is one of our preferred methods to plant organic corn. The other method is planting into #fixation clover. We will have a video on that soon. Back to the alfalfa. We will come back and roll crimp at v1 growth stage. This will not terminate the alfalfa or kill the corn. All we want to do is flatten the alfalfa long enough to get the corn above it and take off growing. Our 20” corn rows will canopy at v6 and start to smother the alfalfa. The alfalfa will slowly release nutrients all season long. This is a beautiful thing, because we do not want big flushes of N at any time. More to come. #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #notill #organic #organicfarming #soilhealth #humanhealth #alfalfa #corn #farm #groworganic #sustainablefarming #sustainableagriculture

Another important part of our system is pollinator strips, or in this case, a pollinator field. This is a 12 acre field that we are planting our #pollinatorpalluza. This cocktail is primarily used as buffer strips between our #organic corn and the neighbors gmo corn. This provides a wonderful environment for the pollinators and all of the other beneficial species. Again, another way to work with Mother Nature. We have a very complex system in place. We call it “systematic approach to regenerative farming”. I hope these posts are helpful and also encourage others to try these methods of farming. #regenerativefarm #regenerativeagriculture #organic #agriculture #soilregeneration #soilhealth #nongmo #organicfarming #humanhealth #farm #pollinators
