Repeating broad jumps train the ability to produce force fast and repeatedly. This targets the stretch shortening cycle and rate of force development. They bridge the gap between max strength and sprint speed by reinforcing horizontal force application and elastic efficiency. When done with intent and quality, they build power & coordination that actually transfers to sport. athlete strengthtraining football strength sportsperformancetraining athletictraining sportstraining speedtraining athleticperformance strengthcoach injuryprevention performancetraining speed workout sport plyometrics functionaltraining personaltrainer motivation physicaltherapy sportsnutrition soccer fitnessmotivation power speedandagility
Olympic lifts do produce high power outputs through triple extension and can improve sprinting, jumping, and RFD. But they’re also highly technical, come with a steep learning curve, and aren’t always practical for every athlete. The research shows something important: Olympic lifting isn’t mandatory to get powerful. Alternatives like heavy pulls, plyometrics, complex training, and velocity-focused resistance training can produce similar power adaptations, often with less complexity and risk. Power isn’t about the exercise, it’s about force × velocity. The best method depends on the athlete’s skill level, mobility, training age, and sport demands. Olympic lifts are a tool, not a requirement.
