Waypoint Therapy

Sometimes the argument isn't really about the dishes.

Maybe it starts with:
“You never help around here.”
“I did them yesterday.”
“Why do I always have to ask?”

And suddenly, you're arguing about dishes for the 20th time.

But sometimes the dishes aren't really the issue. Underneath that argument might be:

“I don't feel supported.”
“I don't feel appreciated.”
“I feel like I'm doing this by myself.”

That's one of the things I love about couples work. We can slow things down and look at what's actually happening underneath the argument.

Sometimes it's not about who was right about the dishes. It's about what each person is needing from the other.

The small arguments can sometimes point to something much bigger.
