When customers ask me If it really is necessary to need a text or other a code from an authentication app (known as 2FA/MFA), “Yes, yes It is. And this is why”

Not only do the scammers have login info, they can then login to your accounts and get more personal info. Like your family members, who you communicate with, what you watch, your political leanings. All this and more is used to build profiles so they know best who to target.

I recently read a book “Mrs Plansky’s Revenge” by Spencer Quinn. It was about a lady, Mrs Plansky, that was scammed out all her money becaue she had the same password for her bank accounts. And p**f! All of it was gone.

149 Million Usernames and Passwords Exposed by Unsecured Database This “dream wish list for criminals” includes millions of Gmail, Facebook, banking logins, and more. The researcher who discovered it suspects they were collected using infostealing malware.

How do I know this is a scam?

1. Phone number: +63 country code is from the Philippines (yes, I had to google country code 63, I definitely don’t have anything more than the US +1 memorized 😂)

2. iMessage: indicates an iPhone sent it. Large businesses and Governments do not send texts from individual iPhones. They have accounts setup through their software or phone vendor.

3. Website: that is not the driveks toll website

4. Instructions: Replying to a message lets the person know you received it and my number is a “good” number that responds. This would open me up to additional scam texts/calls/attempts.
For iMessages specifically, it activates the link so it’s easy to click on. Clicking the link, opens the site. This could allow hackers to steal all kinds of stuff.

REMEMBER The more you interact with scammers, the more likely you are to be scammed. This is a human truth. Before people rode horses, horse thieving wasn’t a thing. Before we had cars, car thieving wasn’t a thing. Before we had digital identities & money, digital thieves weren’t a thing.

Protect your friends and yourselves. Limit who can see your friends list!!

Settings and Privacy > How People Find and Contact you > change who can see your friends list to “only you”

If someone gets hacked or you accept a friend request from someone who’s not who they say they are… your friends aren’t inundated by the same thing. This simple thing keeps hackers, algorithm surfers, and other nefarious jerks, with less data to do there BS.
