For many people, protecting their vision starts with access to care. But for those living in rural and underserved communities, getting an eye exam isn't always easy.

That's why Dr. Jeremy Barton at the Envision Research Institute is supporting innovative solutions that bring eye care closer to the people who need it most. Through the development of portable diagnostic technology, researchers are working to make early detection more accessible, helping identify vision-threatening conditions before they lead to permanent vision loss.

Learn how this research could help transform eye care access and improve outcomes for people across the country in the comments.

Sometimes, confidence starts with something small.

For sisters Allison Barber and Charmain Runyon, that moment came during a simple interaction at Envision's Training for Independence Program. What followed was something bigger: connection, support, and the realization that they were not alone.

"You're not the only one. We're all just at different points."

A more connected approach to learning.

The 2026 Envision and VisionServe Alliance Conference reflects the role Envision plays in shaping where vision rehabilitation goes next. By bringing clinical insight, leadership strategy, and applied research into one program, we are building the kind of cross-disciplinary environment that prepares the next generation of practitioners and leaders.

“You don’t know what you don’t know.”
Throughout our programs at Envision, we champion the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and trying everything at least once. The hesitation is real. So is what’s on the other side of it. Independence, confidence, and self-assurance don’t show up before the first try. They show up because of it.
Try it once. That’s where it starts.

What does independence really feel like?

For participants in Envision's Training for Independence Program, it can be as simple as navigating a space on your own or completing everyday tasks with confidence. For sisters Allison and Charmain, that journey led to something even more powerful: believing in what is possible.

"I can navigate using my other senses, and how good it feels not having to rely on someone."

See how hands-on training helps people build skills and confidence after vision loss in the comments.

The 2026 Envision Fore Vision Golf Tournament brought together sponsors, community partners and supporters in support of the Envision Wichita Foundation and its mission to expand opportunities for people who are blind or have low vision.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, this year’s tournament raised more than $140,000 to help fund programs, services and support that create greater access and independence throughout Wichita and the greater state of Kansas.

We’re grateful to our sponsors, teams, volunteers and attendees for helping make this year’s tournament a success and for continuing to invest in the work of the Envision Wichita Foundation.

Last Thursday’s tournament was more than a day on the course. It was a reflection of what’s possible when our community shows up.

To our partners, sponsors, and every player who joined us, you are what makes this work possible. Your support goes beyond the event and directly advances our mission through Envision’s Dallas Foundation, expanding opportunities for people who are blind or low vision right here in the Dallas Metroplex to live, work, and thrive independently. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️
