Last week was one of those fun, fast-paced weeks that reminds me just how lucky I am to serve this community.
I had the chance to teach martial arts at three different elementary schools, and every time I do, I walk away inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of those kids. Personal Achievement Martial Arts also had a great time participating in Everett Middle School’s International Night, such a cool event that really celebrates the diversity and spirit of our community.
I also got to speak to what might be the sharpest civics class I’ve ever seen, seriously, the future is in good hands. On top of that, I recorded this month’s Mayor’s VLOG, observed the removal of the American Motel, and had the honor of cutting the ribbon at Primrose School at Clear Creek Crossing.
The Wheat Ridge Chamber of Commerce lunch was fantastic as usual. I had the honor of introducing City Manager Goff to give the "State of the City" address. Lots of great things happening.
And to top it all off, we celebrated the “terrible twos” of the incredible Clear Creek Makerspace, what an amazing space that continues to bring people together and spark creativity.
Busy weeks like this are the best kind. Thanks to everyone who makes this community so special!

Had an awesome time speaking with a civics class at Everett Middle School today! I was blown away by how engaged, knowledgeable, and passionate these students were. They asked thoughtful questions, shared great ideas, and showed a real interest in how their government works.
Thank you to Ms. Watchman, Mr. David Alex, and Rosalee Gelski for the invitation and for creating such a great environment for these students to learn and grow.
The future is bright with kids like this coming up!

Great questions and discussion this morning at Coffee with the Mayor! We spent time talking about the importance of affordable and attainable housing, how the city is funded, and some of the larger projects coming up for Wheat Ridge, including Anderson Pool and the potential future move of City Hall and the Police Station.
A huge thank you to our amazing hosts at the Wheat Ridge Active Adult Center for providing such a welcoming place for these conversations.
Thank you as well to everyone who came out to be part of the discussion. These gatherings are always a great way to stay connected with the community.
Our next Coffee with the Mayor will be May 9th. Hope to see you there!

Such a cool experience yesterday! I was invited to read stories to the kids at Stevens Elementary School. I brought along Ninja Red Riding Hood and The Three Ninja Pigs, which were a big hit.
It was pretty funny hearing several of the kids whisper, “the karate guy is the Mayor?"
Stevens does an amazing job creating more than just a school, they’re building a real community. I’m always grateful for the chance to be a small part of it.

From amazing performances by elementary school choirs to robotics and drone demonstrations, the Jeffco Schools Foundation Gala was a wonderful event. It was great to see so many people out supporting our kids and their education.
Sara and I also bought a Dinner for 10 during the auction, and we’re excited to treat the Personal Achievement Martial Arts staff to a fun night out. They’ve earned it!

We helped celebrate 5 years of the incredible work being done at the Porch Light, A Family Justice Center. While it’s unfortunate that services like theirs are needed, our community is truly fortunate to have such a compassionate and dedicated organization here.
Thank you to the staff and volunteers who work every day to support survivors and help change lives. Your impact in our community is immeasurable.

Thank you to Cub Scout Pack 240 for inviting me to talk about being Mayor and how local government works in Wheat Ridge.
The scouts were sharp and full of big ideas. I even heard one whisper, “Isn’t that the karate guy?”
One of my favorite moments was a scout suggesting we get rid of taxes and let charity handle everything. Bold thinking!
Grateful for such engaged young leaders in our community.

I showed up to Coffee With the Mayor this morning at Stylus & Crate and there was a line wrapped around the front of the building.
My first thought: “What did I say to make everyone mad at me?”
My second thought: “Wow… I’ve really made it.” 😅
Turns out, the line wasn’t for me, it’s there every weekend for the incredible pastries from Get Rights Bakery and the amazing coffee and atmosphere at Stylus & Crate. If you’ve been, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
We had a great discussion with dedicated residents who came out this morning. I’m always grateful for the chance to connect, listen, and talk about what’s happening in Wheat Ridge.
Huge thank you to Alex Rose from the Wheat Ridge Police Department for joining us and sharing some of the fantastic work WRPD is doing in our community.
Wheat Ridge shows up and I love that about us!
