The answer to yesterday's trivia question is True! Caffeine has a half-life of 1.5 to 9.5 hours. This depends on each person's genetics, which determines how quickly the body metabolizes what is ingested. If you're having trouble sleeping, don't only look at the time you stop caffeine, but also how much you are consuming during the day.
Trivia Tuesday - True or False - Caffeine has anywhere from a 1.5- to 9.5- hour half-life.
Check back tomorrow for the answer! :)

Today we are traveling to the Nilgiri Region of India and our tea pick is the Chamraj Estate Frost Wulong Tea. This is one of the highest tea gardens in the Nilgiris, a mountainous region in the State of Tamil Nadu in the southwestern part of the country. The tea garden was established in 1922 at an elevation above 6,500 feet. The high-grown leaves are plucked during the dry winter months when fog covers the tea gardens, giving us the highly sought-after Frost teas. After harvest, they are then mid-oxidized about 50%-60%. The twisted strip-style leaves unfurl to yield a lively, clean, medium-bodied infusion that is flavorful and highly aromatic with notes of honey and stone fruit and a hint of spice. We'll be sampling this tea all weekend, so feel free to stop by to try some! 🙂

Freshly baked scones - Cranberry Orange and Walnut Cinnamon Sugar! Yum :)

Thank you for the participation in yesterday's trivia question and the answer is A. Well done! Yes, what makes earl grey distinctive is that it contains bergamot essential oil or flavor. Traditionally, earl grey is crafted with a black tea base; however, now there are many different varieties of earl grey that are crafted with green, wulong, and white teas or other herbs and herbal blends. Some people think that earl grey is a plain black tea, but that is not the case.
Trivia Tuesday - What is distinctive about earl grey?
a) It contains bergamot essential oil or flavor
b) It is a black tea
c) It does not contain any added flavor
d) b & c only

Today we are traveling to the Indonesian island of Java and our tea pick is the PT Harendong Organic Black Tea. PT Harendong Green Farm is located at an elevation approximately 2,700 feet near Mount Halimun Salak National Park in the westernmost Banten Province on the island of Java. The garden has only planted a Taiwanese wulong cultivar of Camellia sinensis sinensis in the rich volcanic soil of this pristine mountainous region. Lightly roasted rolled leaves unfurl to yield a smooth, rich, and complex medium– to full-bodied infusion with sweet notes of caramel and earth and a hint of floral. We'll be sampling this tea all weekend, so feel free to stop by to try some! 🙂

New povitica has arrived at the shop! This satisfying treat is part of my Croatian and Slovenian heritage and is perfect with tea. It's a yeast dough that is rolled out very thin, slathered with delicious fillings, and then rolled up so that there are beautiful swirls when it is cut. It is available in the following flavors: traditional Walnut & Honey, Apple Cranberry Walnut, and Chocolate. Yum! 🙂

Blended up a fresh batch of our Provence Blend Organic Herbal Tisane! This is a blend of herbs reminiscent of the flavors and aromas of this famous region in southern France. The combination of caffeine-free, organic herbs balances the herby and culinary notes of olive leaf and rosemary, the citrus notes of orange peel and lemon thyme, and the earthy-floral notes of lavender.
Thank you for the participation yesterday and well done! The answer to yesterday's trivia question is, indeed, B) oxidation. Tea leaves undergo several different steps during processing, but whether or not the leaves go through an oxidation step is the factor that determines the type of tea it will be.
Trivia Tuesday - Tea leaves undergo several different steps during processing, which results in the six types of tea. Which of the following is the main step we use to determine the tea type?
A) Fermentation
B) Oxidation
C) Rolling

Today we are traveling to the Wu Yi Mountain Region in the Fujian Province of China and our tea pick is the Da Hong Pao Wulong Tea! Also known as Big Red Robe, it is one of the ten most famous teas of China and it is the most famous and widely produced of the Yan Cha (Rock or Cliff) wulong teas from this region. Rock Teas benefit from the rocky soil that imparts a distinctive minerality. Historically, small amounts of this tea were processed from wild-harvested leaves and commercial production of Da Hong Pao began only about 60 years ago using cuttings of the original tea plants. Contrary to popular belief, there is no Da Hong Pao cultivar; instead, this wulong is produced from either the Bei Dou or Qi Dan cultivars or a blend of these and/or other cultivars in order to produce a tea with the distinctive, classic “rock” taste representative of this region. Leaves from different cultivars are blended, mid-oxidized around 40-60%, and then roasted. They yield a smooth and flavorful, medium-bodied infusion with deep, earthy, mineral, mild toasty, and stone fruit notes. We'll be sampling this tea all weekend, so feel free to stop by to try some! 🙂

Blended up a fresh batch of Throat Soother Organic Herbal Tisane! This is a caffeine-free blend of herbs that will soothe the mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Marshmallow root and licorice root coat and soothe dry, irritated tissue and mullein can help alleviate mild chest congestion and inflammation in the lungs. This is a perfect blend for the end of a cold, allergies, or a dry, hacking cough.

Today is National Almond Day! Treat yourself to one of our almond teas - Almond Black Tea, Almond Vanilla Green Tea, Rooibos Cinnamon Almond Herbal Tisane, are just a few. Or grab some macarons, since they are made with almond flour :)
