Help Us Honor the Past in Our New City Building

As we prepare to move into the new City of West Lake Hills building, we’re looking to preserve and showcase the history that has shaped our community.
If you have historical items, photographs, memorabilia, or stories related to West Lake Hills or the West Lake Hills Police Department that you’d be willing to donate, loan, or allow us to make copies of, we’d love to hear from you. These items may be featured in a permanent or rotating display to help bring our community’s legacy to life within the new space.
Whether it’s an old newspaper clipping, a photo of the first city hall, or a memento from a long-time resident, city leader, or officer, your piece of history could help tell the story of West Lake Hills for generations to come.

If you’re interested or have questions, please reach out to Tristin Castillo at [email protected] or our main line at 512-327-1195.

Thank you for being part of what makes West Lake Hills so special.

Today is our Move Over, Slow Down Enforcement Operation, and DPS Troopers are out in increased numbers looking for drivers violating this law. DPS is teaming up with our neighboring states for this joint effort, and we are asking every driver to follow the Move Over, Slow Down law — today and every day.

Texas law requires drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching a vehicle with emergency lights activated, including law enforcement, fire, EMS, Texas Department of Transportation, tow trucks and other vehicles.

It’s up to everyone to make our roadways safer. Always Move Over or Slow Down.

Since the first recorded police death in 1786, more than 24,000 names have been engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. This year, 345 officers — including 148 killed in 2024 — are being formally added and recognized during the 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, May 13.

Texas holds the heartbreaking distinction of the most fallen officers, with 2,021 lives lost. Nationwide, more than 2,584 officers have died in the past decade alone. Among them are 487 women, including 9 who gave their lives in 2022.

National Police Week was first established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, with the week in which it falls designated to honor law enforcement’s service and sacrifice.
