My latest work.
Elisabeth Hyder is a beloved local artist from North Brookfield. Her paste paper collages are the perfect combination of artistry and precision. Using the traditional technique of pigments on paper, she brings to them her own designs and colors. Into the wet starch paste she draws, rolls, stamps, or tools various patterns, often producing three-dimensional effects, many of them one-of- a-kind. From the dried sheets she fabricates boxes, journals, cards, port-folios, and framed color studies and collages. Others use her papers for displays, advertising, and bookbindings.
Visit the gallery website to see more of her work, or to contact her directly.
Gallery Hours: Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 10-2, due to the pandemic. Longer hours coming soon...

Newest piece from Tracy Crane. You don’t need a green thumb. Headed to ArtsWorcester.
Here is a picture of my completed panel.
Here is my next panel I am working on. A barred owl with three oval shaped glass jewels. The three jewels represent birthstones of the person’s three children who will be getting this panel.

Karen Healy lives in Rutland, Massachusetts. This gorgeous hooked piece would be a lovely addition to any space, or make a wonderful gift!
The Dappled Ewe Rug Hooking
“Drawing, color, antiques, historic crafts and country fairs… All of these favorites came together in 1999 when, at the Sterling fair, I signed up for a traditional rug hooking class with Barbara Costello – the founder of the Wachusett chapter of the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists (ATHA). Ever since, I’ve been friends with Barbara, a member of the ATHA guild, hooking rugs, and dyeing wool fabric for fiber arts. I began selling my dyed wool when fellow guild member asked to buy some. I started selling small bits of hooked work at the Festival of Forgotten Arts organized by the Rutland Historic Society. And I’ve taught classes along the journey, too, primarily through Petersham Art Center. My style is primitive, although because I love color, I deviate from the traditional dark earth tones of primitive rugs. I guess I’d label my work as folk art. My designs are simple, hand-drawn on linen foundation cloth and hand- hooked in quarter-inch-wide strips of wool fabric. Like the designs of women during the 1800’s when rug hooking first became popular in New England, my designs incorporate things that I experience and enjoy in everyday life. I don’t have a formal studio; I dye wool on the kitchen stove and hook either in my favorite chair, or in the sun-filled dining room, or outside on the back deck when the weather is nice. I try to keep my life simple, doing what I love while using and appreciating what I have.”
