A new chapter in golf for West Branch.
The American Legion built the West Branch Golf and Country Club for $250,000 on the site of an existing course in town in 1969. The site was established as the country club for meetings and dinners at that time. In 1969 a flagpole and "Flame of Freedom" were dedicated by 3 Eagle Scouts, Rick Mayhew, Larry Paulsen and John Stroppel. The legion sold the Country Club to Mike and Mary McCarthy in 1975 their son Sean McCarthy played the national junior pro circuit from 1996-1999. Another local golfer Dave Rummells grew up playing golf on the course and plays on the national pro golf circuit.
In 1999 the McCartys sold the course which became the Fox Run Golf and Country Club.
In 2016 local residents Jerry and Tammy Sexton purchased the course and have revitalized the course, the membership and the community of golf enthusiast once again for years to come, becoming a new chapter in the history of West Branch.

We have more information on the photo of the local house we posted a few weeks ago. It was the home of Dr. Bailey and was located where the Tower Apts. currently are but was moved down Maple Street.
It turns out that Dr. Bailey was famous for more than his medical skills, he apparently developed his own variety of Peach tree.
