This neat little gadget is a brandy or cognac warmer - almost makes me wish I liked brandy

Today I saw an interesting item I was not familiar with. This Is something lady would carry in her purse to hold sticks of chewing gum.

We saw this improvised headboard created from from custom made cushions hanging from a brass rod. Thought it was a novel idea to share.

We were working in a house yesterday and came across an old kitchen appliance we had not seen before. Without researching it does anyone know what this was used for?

In recent years the antique market has changed dramatically and interest has dwindled in secondhand goods.

There has been so much attention and concern about global warming, climate change, and reducing our carbon footprint.

These two statements may seem unrelated. But if we considered purchasing more used items all across the board including furniture China glass clothing artwork etcetera we would indeed have a way of at least making a start in helping our environment and at the same time breathe new life into the antique market.

Imagine the amount of items that would no longer end up in landfills! Not to mention the durability of older furniture far surpasses what is being made today. The beauty of a hand-painted piece of art instead of a mass-produced print on the wall is another example.

There are plenty of places where affordable items are available. Household and estate sales, thrift stores, and online for example Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. There are large group shops and small distinctive antique and consignment stores full of treasures waiting to be discovered.

So perhaps the next time you are considering a purchase open yourself up to the possibility of purchasing an item from one of these places before buying something newly made.

The 19th century perhaps was one of the fanciest time periods for setting the dining room table. The Victorians had some very unique serving pieces, utensils, and whimsical gadgets. Antique Victorian silver plate is an interesting subject and here is an example of a piece I have not seen before. This pear shaped item is a servant's buzzer.
