Crack O' Dawn Is Moving To Central Downtown

Back on March 14, 2026, Waynesboro.Com reported that the building where Crack o' Dawn is located had gone up for sale, and the future of the bakery / bistro was in question.

Now, the question has been answered: they are moving a few blocks east and will be next door to the Art Center, in the 414 West Main Street location that just gained a new mural.

This should be a good move for the business and a benefit for downtown. Having a retail bakery & bistro within walking distance of the other downtown businesses means that hungry shoppers have another place to stop and restore themselves.

I recall from several other businesses that have operated in that spot that it is more spacious than their previous location. With the right atmosphere, this could become an excellent hangout.

It is also good to have one fewer vacant store fronts on Main Street. Others are likely to join them.

Now, we have a new question: What will be moving into their old location, the spot where the original Stone Soup Books was located at 908 West Main Street?

New Office Space Downtown Coming Soon

The old Waynesboro Fire Department Number 1 location has been under renovation for quite some time, and now the finishing touches are being applied to the new business office spaces that will be available there.

Waynesboro.Com captured this picture on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from the relaxing patio area next to the French Press on North Wayne Avenue. Kris Krupa, who is working with the folks on this project said that they should be available for rental soon.

These offices, along with the Waynesboro Innovation Hub in the Virginia Metalcrafters Marketplace on East Main Street, are bringing some needed location possibilities to local entrepreneurs.

Day 2 Of Carnival Week

is about as lively as Day One was. A lot of locals having big fun on a warm night is something that most of us needed.

For more information, visit https://www.visitwaynesboro.com/events/dooms-volunteer-fire-department-carnival/

However, as we saw after the carnival closed last night, it is best to disperse from the carnival site promptly after it is over.

Some juveniles were congregating around the area after the carnival (allegedly waiting for rides home) and some issues broke out that had to be handled by police.

Pizza & NBA

The French Press's new patio expansion is lively tonight as they have their outdoor pizza oven fired up and testing recipes. I had already eaten, but tasted a fraction of a slice anyway.

Smoky flavor and balsamic vinegar topping made this above your run-of-the-mill pizza.

It's a good night to be outdoors, now that the heat has subsided. There is a big screen on the patio with the NBA playing. It feels like my back yard as a kid.

El Carreton 2 Mexican Food Truck

caught my eye on East Main Street as I passed by the Arco gas station where it is parked. I had not seen it before, so I stopped to examine the menu.

They have an extensive menu so it took a while to read it. After all that time, I felt compelled to buy something. I chose the Burrito California, with grilled chicken.

It was delicious and big. I had to save some for later. I'll be visiting El Carreton 2 again soon.

UPDATE: All clear.

Carnival Week Is Off To A Good Start

in the Constitution Park parking lot tonight. It runs through Saturday night, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Some nights, it may run later if crowd size demands it.

It's kind of funny that the rides and amusements have not changed much in half a century, but small town carnivals still attract big crowds.

According to the Dooms Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. who holds the carnival, this is the last time that it will be held in the old Advance parking lot.
