This floating shelf was designed to handle real weight, layered with meaning, and styled with pieces that tell a story. Wool art beside a gifted Picasso lithograph. An antique cutting board next to a brand-new one. A well-traveled antique bell from Spain adding a quiet note of history. A swing-arm sconce casting the glow and a quartzite stone grounding it all.

From Concept to Cookspace

This kitchen was such a joy to bring to life. From the first material pull to the final reveal. We started with a vision: bold, timeless, and full of texture.

The heart of the design is the custom Amish-made island, crafted from reclaimed wood that brings warmth and soul to the space. I hand-selected the honed black quartzite for the countertop. Its matte finish adds a subtle depth that perfectly balances the rustic character of the island.

For contrast, the backsplash and perimeter counters are a stunning white quartzite with soft veining that feels both natural and elegant. Pair that with the checkerboard floor, statement pendants, and a cozy breakfast nook…and this kitchen found its rhythm.

Every detail, from the materials to the lighting, was designed to feel collected and intentional — a space that’s sophisticated but never too serious.

Serenity in the Details

Every element of this space was chosen to create quiet luxury from the soft fluted wall tile that adds gentle texture, to the warm ambient lighting that glows beneath the vanity and frames the mirrors like candlelight.

The freestanding tub sits by the window, inviting moments of stillness and reflection. Natural light by day, soft glow by night, a perfect balance of calm and sophistication.

You can add warmth without spending a fortune. I used layered bedding from Wayfair and turned a $3 Etsy download into a wrapped canvas with help from Team Concept Printing. I also grabbed a faux peel-and-stick grasscloth wall covering from Wayfair. You really don’t need to splurge to create a great look.

A Warm Welcome, Inside and Out

When I design an entryway, I think about how it feels to arrive, not just what it looks like. The goal is to create a transition that feels intentional and calm from the very first step.

Outside, the arched doorway and tall planters set a welcoming tone and frame the architecture beautifully. Inside, the foyer carries that feeling forward with soft textures, sculptural forms, and gentle lighting that adds warmth and depth.

The circular shapes from the front window to the mirror tie the spaces together, creating a quiet rhythm between exterior and interior.

For me, every entrance should feel like an exhale.

Before & After: Illinois 1940s Farmhouse to Spanish Modern Elegance

This family room got a whole new identity: warm, sculptural, and just the right amount of drama.

We traded the painted brick for a smooth stucco fireplace, added arched entries that soften the architecture, and layered in fluted panels and ambient lighting around the bar to set the mood.

The result? A space that feels timeless yet totally unexpected. Equal parts old soul and modern edge.

By preserving the barn’s architectural charm, the pitched roof, exposed beams, and natural textures while introducing modern glass doors, fitness flooring, and strategic lighting, the transformation balances heritage and innovation.
