The Illinois Department of Public Health wants you to be aware of Poison Hemlock. This dangerous plant is affecting the respiratory system and causing parts of the body to swell and blister within hours. Common exposures can include mowing ditches, weeding, and other outdoor occupations. Poison Hemlock contains a toxin, conine. Conine can cause paralysis, seizures, autonomic instability, respiratory depression, comas, and possibly death if ingested. Please wear gloves, long pants and long-sleeve shirts if working around unfamiliar outdoor plants. Always be sure to wash your hands with soap and water after removing gloves and wash your clothing in hot water. If you have been exposed to Poison Hemlock and are experiencing symptoms please call 911 or get to the Emergency Department. We've worked hard this our 8th year building Benners Crazy Acres a little bigger each year, this year for health reasons I had to make the painful decision to take a break for our spring season but it doesn't mean we've not been busy getting ready for our fall Mum's season and look forward to it opening July 15th-October 15th
Today we received an amazing blessing and recognition by the Dammy Award through Radio Keokuk and by those who voted in our Community of the Tri-state area of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. We couldn't except this without recognizing our Mother Phyllis Benner as when she and dad sold the farm of 48 yrs and moved to town she let us come get perennials, peonies, Lilacs, hostas, Liveforevers and Lilly's, I have each year thinned and transplanted in other areas of our yard, also pay it forward by sharing free starts annually. In the beginning my husband thought I was CRAZY (that's why it's called Benners Crazy Acres) to want a she shed and garden/gift barn but has been supportive and works as a team each year growing more things and building anything I need for my handmade craft items. We are Blessed to be in an area supportive of small businesses and has helped our dream and vision grow. Thanks from the bottom of our muddy hands ✋ 😁🤪🤣 we appreciate everyone ❣🫂🙏
