Transcript of "The surprising reason you feel awful when you're sick" TED Talk Subtitles and Transcript: It starts with a tickle in your throat that becomes a cough. Your muscles begin to ache, you grow irritable, and you lose your appetite. It's official: you've got the flu. Merry Christmas One and All

Contractor woes- I just had a consult with a contractor that went over his original price by over $40,000. The homeowner didn't sign any change orders saying they were too busy at work to find the time to sign it. Now the owner says that they aren't responsible. Of course the contractor never followed up with the homeowner either figuring why bother. This puts the contractor's entire profit at risk. Courts have determined that change orders called for in the contract protect both sides so that each side understands what the additional cost is for. The risk to the contractor is losing all the extra value of his work. The risk to the homeowner is being locked into a litigation over whether or not a change order was needed. Further the court can possibly award the value of his work or materials. Changes should be reduced to writing to protect all.
I had another consult where a person struggling financially drained their IRA and then came to see me. Retirement accounts are generally untouchable in bankruptcy unless you cash it in, then it is exposed. Please, if you are having trouble, come in and talk it over before you make big financial moves. You can do with the advice as you wish, but better to be fully informed than not.
Refinancing has begun to accelerate in CT as lenders are becoming a bit more confident in their lending requirements! It may be time to consider a refinance now before the rates climb away.
I had a free debt consultation recently. The couple explained how they have valiantly tried to pay their credit cards ($25,000) over the last four years. They have taken 401k loans, used tax refunds to pay at least minimum payments. The problem is they are 60 years old and are depleting their retirement to pay minimum payment on 23% credit cards. They would have been so much better off if they had come in a few years ago and discussed a plan to resolve the debt or eliminate the debt. If they had, they would have no credit card debt and not owe over $45,000 in credit card and 401K debt. Just a reminder that consultations are free, it is worth it to come in and talk about your financial situation if you are struggling. You will get some good advice and then it is up to you to choose your path.
